The Hidden Meaning Behind Danielle Colby's Tattoos On American Pickers

By Sam Skopp / Aug. 4, 2021 3:02 pm EDT
For over 20 seasons, the A&E reality TV series "American Pickers" — a show about buying and selling antiques — was hosted by trio Frank Fritz, Mike Wolfe, and Danielle Colby. Midway through Season 21, however, Frank Fritz departed "American Pickers," due to what he has since revealed was an interpersonal feud between he and Wolfe .
Since the disagreement between the two men ultimately compelled Fritz to leave, the series will remain in Wolfe's hands moving forward. That said, Wolfe's continued presence hasn't necessarily absolved him of guilt in the eyes of some fans. Many thus looked to Colby for clarification on the issue, as the third host of the series with possibly the most insight into working relationship both men had with one another. Colby shared her perspective in a series of Instagram posts, saying little directly about the issue while seeming to both express her support for Fritz and her commitment to working with Wolfe.
While in this case Colby took the path of least resistance and opted for a diplomatic response, in other aspects of her life Colby is outward and assertive about her identity. For example, Colby works as a burlesque dancer when she's not running Antique Archaeology's front office for "American Pickers." Colby is also heavily tattooed, as anyone with even a passing interest in "American Pickers" is likely aware. Due of her abundance of tattoos, she's not on record explaining the significance of every single one of them, but nevertheless, Colby has provided some insight into what some of her favorite tattoos mean, as well as her philosophy about tattoos in general.
In an interview with the tattoo-focused Freshly Inked Magazine , Danielle Colby revealed that she finds inspiration for her tattoos in her friends and family. Furthermore, she described wanting to feel some degree of closeness with an artist before hiring them for tattoo work. "Each piece is there for a very specific reason. I really enjoy it when an artist feels their inspiration and they follow their own bliss," Colby said. When I'm collecting tattoos," she continued, "I'm collecting somebody's art, having somebody else's beautiful work on my body, in line with the theme I'm looking for. So I guess my greatest inspiration is the artist I'm working with."
Colby told the now-defunct blog YuppiePunk that she enjoyed working with two artists in particular at the time of their interview. One of those is an artist named Chewie, who works out of a shop called Alex in Tattooland in Moline, Illinois. She inked a piece taking up much of Colby's left arm themed around entomology. The inspiration behind it, Colby explained, is simply that she loves bugs.
In 2012, meanwhile, Colby told Moline, Illinois-based news network WQAD that her favorite tattoos at the time were drawn by her children. Just as she explained that professional tattoo artists are often her biggest source of inspiration, the artistic impulses of her children similarly provided inherent significance to the tattoos that they drew.
In short, Colby's tattoos are generally themed around her friends, family, and personal interests, while also taking into account the specialties of the artists drawing them. This philosophy may not necessarily account for all of her tattoos, but each one she's explicitly detailed in an interview seems to follow this general ethos.

Danielle Colby From American Pickers Has Way More Tattoos Than You Realize

By Shane O'Neill / Aug. 13, 2021 8:43 pm EDT
For over a decade, History's "American Pickers" has taken audiences on antiquing adventures from the comfort of their living rooms. From sea to shining sea, hosts Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz have scoured the United States for the trinkets and treasures of yesteryear, meeting folks from all walks of life in the process. Although, this winning formula has undergone some changes in recent months, with Fritz being ousted from the program and his long-secret feud with Wolfe coming to light. Nevertheless, the show must go on, and go on it shall into its 22nd season.
As of this writing, there has been no word concerning Frank Fritz's replacement on "American Pickers," but we do know that Mike Wolfe is set to continue his tenure. The same goes for Danielle Colby, who has appeared far less frequently than the guys but is still a vital member of the "Pickers" team. After all, she's typically the one steering them in the right direction during their road trips and is depicted as the one running the main Antique Archaeology store where they bring their finds. She's even known to engage in picks herself whenever needed.
However, away from the "Pickers" world, Danielle Colby has never shied away from sharing her personal hobbies with the world . One of the most prominent of the bunch is her affinity for tattoos, which has resulted in a staggering amount of ink adorning her body.
On most episodes of "American Pickers," though they're rarely the focus, at least a handful of Danielle Colby's tattoos are visible. As a result, it's no big secret that most of the space on her arms, shoulders, and chest are inked up with various patterns and important imagery, but these are only the tip of the iceberg. As Distractify notes, her stomach, back, and even hands are also covered in body art that she has accumulated over the years. She refers to it as "tattoo collecting" — a hobby that has come to mean a lot to her.
"I'm not afraid of people judging the work I have on my body. It's a storyline for myself," Colby told Freshly Inked in 2019 (via Outsider ). She explains that she didn't initially take tattoo collecting seriously, but has since grown to appreciate it as something more than a simple hobby. This has led her to not only come up with unique designs for herself but also allow those working on her latest pieces to take creative license as they see fit — noting that she's most comfortable being tattooed when she's close with the artist responsible.
For some, tattoos are just another form of self-expression, but not for Danielle Colby. In her mind, they represent an experience, a time in her life, and the work of a talented artist who's dedicated to their craft. We can likely expect even more stellar designs to join her already impressive assortment of tattoos in the coming years.

Most fans of American Pickers know a few things about Danielle Colby. First and foremost, she’s Mike Wolfe’s right hand. Dani helps him run Antique Archaeology while also finding leads on valuable picks. Additionally, they know she has an impressive tattoo collection.
Over the years, she has slowly turned her skin into a canvas for a handful of talented artists. These days, she gets tattoos from artists with whom she feels some kind of connection. This is important because most of her tattoos have deeply personal meanings that, in a way, tell the story of her life in pictures. Her first tattoo, though, may not be quite as personal.
Recently, Danielle Colby appeared on The Sailor Jerry Podcast . For the most part, they discussed American Pickers and her love of vintage style. For instance, Dani talked about her favorite places to pick as well as the best way to find rusty gold on the road . However, the podcast shares the name of a tattoo industry icon. So, it was only fitting that they ask Dani about her tattoos. She noted that she has a few of Sailor Jerry’s designs tattooed on her. Then, the host asked her about her first tattoo.
Danielle Colby said, “My first tattoo was an LBT tramp stamp of a tribal butterfly.” If you follow Dani on Instagram or Patreon you’ve probably caught a glimpse of this tattoo before. It’s a relatively small butterfly on her lower back. However, most of the photos that show it are pretty racy. This is the clearest shot of it I could find while still being safe for work.
For those who aren’t in the know, “LBT” stands for lower back tattoo. They’re usually placed in the center of the back just above the tail bone. At some point, people started calling them “tramp stamps” because of their popularity among young attractive women. Those folks just kind of assumed the worst about a woman with ink and the name stuck. These days, the term is less derisive and more widely used.
Danielle Colby added a tidbit of extra information about the tattoo. She said, “The guy who did that tattoo, I believe might be incarcerated,” which adds some intrigue to the small butterfly tattoo.
Dani didn’t say when she got her first tattoo. However, it seems that her artist selection process has changed over the years. In 2019 , she said that she loves working with artists who feel their inspiration and follow their bliss while working with her. Then she added that Patrick Cornolo at Chicago’s Speakeasy Tattoo is her “perfect match.”

AMERICAN Pickers star Danielle Colby left very little to the imagination as she donned a thong and pasties while performing a burlesque routine for her fans.
The reality star shared a clip from the risque video to her Instagram page.
In the clip, Danielle, 46, flaunted her curvy figure by flirtatiously shaking her butt at the camera and rubbing a furry black boa along her body.
The History Channel star showcased her tattoos wearing only a thong and pasties with black tassels on them to cover her breasts.
Danielle gazed seductively at the camera as she bent over, rubbing her fingers along her fishneck stockings in clear heels.
The TV star also wore a red headpiece for the video, completing the look with a red lip.
The video appeared to be recorded in the star's bedroom as she also hung up a black cobweb decoration to add to the scene.
Sultry music played in the background as she danced to the routine.
She captioned the post: "I’ve been revisiting some burlesque routines. This one is from Halloween and I love it so much. I just had to reshare it with you all. I uploaded the full routine to OF if you want to check it out. 😘 💕 🕸 Link in bio"
Danielle has proven that she's not shy in front of the camera as she previously shared a similar video of her dancing freely wearing leopard tassels.
Last month, the American Pickers star took to the platform to tease the sexy number to promote her upcoming appearance at The Dirty Show in Detriot, Michigan.
In the short clip, the reality star had on a leopard bandana that covered up her hair and head.
With her arms bare, she was able to show off her tattoos while waving around her black sash.
During her wild dance, the reality star shook her booty while the tassels spun in a circle.
Danielle captioned the post: "I’m working on getting my routine together and figured I would share a little bit of it with you all."
She was "offering a clip of this routine" as well on her Patreon account for interested followers.
She managed to throw shade at her former co-host, Frank Fritz, 56.
Danielle said that the entertainment industry had left many of her peers with their own big “egos.”
While speaking with host Matt Caughthran, Danielle revealed: “In the entertainment industry, that ego gets so real, so fast."
“There have been times where I have to put myself in check for my daughter [ Memphis ]."
She concluded: “I’ll read something and she’ll be like, ‘Why don’t you read that again without the tone?’”
Though she did not name Frank, fans would not be surprised if Danielle was referring to his dramatic exit from the History show.
Frank last appeared on the popular show during a March episode in 2020.
