When Daniela Ruah isn’t playing Special Agent Kensi Blye in “NCIS: Los Angeles,” you can catch her bikini-clad, spending her weekends by the pool
The 37-year-old Portuguese-American actress took to Instagram to show off her playful side with a string of bikini pics. “Summer, weekend, nuff said,” she wrote in the caption. She also included the Portuguese translation.
Ruah booked her first acting job at just 16. She played Sara on the Portuguese soap opera “Jardins Proíbidos.” After that, she took on other acting projects as she completed high school. After she graduated, she moved to London to study Performing Arts at the London Metropolitan University. In 2007, she moved to New York City and enrolled in the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute.
Later in 2009, she got her big break when she landed on the hit CBS crime drama “NCIS: Los Angeles.” Although she spent her time acting, she got to try her hand at directing earlier this year when she helmed the 11th episode of Season 12 of “NCIS: Los Angeles.”
It’s a “totally different challenge,” she confessed at the time, who was under intense COVID-19 restrictions at the time. “We are limited in what we can do,” she said. “So it’s up to the director to use the camera in a creative way to recreate a rich aesthetic when we have much less to work with.”
According to Ruah, because of COVID-19, the scripts had to change, and the number of people in each scene was much smaller.
“I had to go back a little bit to see the style we had before,” said Ruah about her preparation. “We used to have hundreds of extras and a full scene, visually rich, that’s something we can’t do now,” she stressed. “It’s an aesthetic that we have to pretend it exists without showing it.”
Although it was difficult, Ruah said it was actually helpful. “Doing it for the first time is interesting because I have many parameters to work with, which helps me,” she said.
The shooting process took place over a week in Los Angeles, Calif.
“I feel really excited and I’m loving it,” said Ruah, adding that directors Yangzom Brauen and Tawnia McKiernan were her mentors in this process. Although she’s been studying acting much longer than directing, she would still like to continue running shows in the United States and Portugal.
“It’s a passion I’ve had for a long time, but I never gave it a try out of fear,” she said, explaining that she never trusted enough her ability to take this step. The new season of “NCIS: Los Angeles” will return to the air on Sunday, Oct. 10 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on CBS.

When not filming NCIS: Los Angeles , actress Daniela Ruah (Kensi) spends a lot of time at home with her family, and sometimes in a gorgeous bikini and fedora as seen in the leggy photo above.

NCIS: Los Angeles airs Sundays at 9 pm on CBS, right after The Equalizer at 8 pm and right before NCIS: New Orleans at 10 pm.
