Danica Patrick Announces New Venture: Electric Speedway Racing League

May 24, 2025 — Former NASCAR and IndyCar star Danica Patrick is stepping back into the racing world—but this time, with a futuristic twist. The trailblazing driver announced today the launch of the Electric Speedway Racing League (ESRL), a new all-electric open-wheel racing series set to debut in 2026.

Patrick, who became the first woman to win an IndyCar race in 2008, revealed her ambitious project during an exclusive interview on SpeedSport Today. 'The future of racing is sustainable, fast, and inclusive,' she said. 'ESRL will push the boundaries of electric vehicle technology while creating thrilling competition for fans worldwide.'

What to Expect from ESRL

All-Electric Race Cars: Cutting-edge, high-performance EVs capable of speeds exceeding 200 mph.

Gender-Neutral Competition: Patrick emphasized that ESRL will feature equal opportunities for male and female drivers.

City Street Circuits: Races will be held on temporary urban tracks in major cities, similar to Formula E but with a focus on high-speed oval and road course hybrids.

Patrick, who retired from full-time racing in 2018, has remained active in motorsports as a commentator and entrepreneur. Her new league has already attracted interest from major automotive manufacturers and sponsors looking to invest in next-gen racing.

'Danica has always been a disruptor,' said former teammate Tony Kanaan. 'If anyone can make electric racing exciting on this scale, it’s her.'

The ESRL schedule and team announcements are expected later this year. For now, Patrick’s return to the track—albeit in a leadership role—has racing fans buzzing.
