Daisy Outdoor Advertising Co was born out of an advertising need of a peach business owned by Jodean Lemmons. From 1967 forward, Lemmons’ Farms has grown, packed, shipped, and sold peaches. Jodean Lemmons realized the value of outdoor advertising when he contracted with Naegele Outdoor Advertising to provide advertisement to attract customers to exit for peaches. When he lost the contract for a sign in 1980, it prompted him to build his own sign to insure dependable advertisement each season for the peach business. That next winter, Jodean got a call from another merchant asking to rent that sign. By summer 1981, he obtained another sign location and built other signs. Jodean learned the sign regulations and constructed his own sign structures. In the spring of 1982, a late frost killed out the entire peach crop, as it did in 1983 as well. He had employees who needed work, so he began building signs in order to provide jobs for these loyal employees.  Jodean quickly realized that the billboard sign business would be a terrific addition to his peach business. After two years of freeze outs with the peach crop, Jodean began focusing more on his outdoor sign company, which he named after his wife, Daisy. He maintained his peach business but scaled it back so that he was no longer growing his own peaches or shipping. However, he continued to operate two locations that sold peaches during the summer months. Both the sign business and the peach business became a family affair with his wife and 3 children assisting with the duties. With Jodean’s entrepreneur spirit, Daisy Outdoor continued to grow with sign locations in 11 counties in upstate South Carolina. Since its inception, Jodean was involved in the construction and maintenance of the sign structures, but began getting more involved with the sales efforts in the later years. He loved his work and the people he met. In 2011, Jodean was diagnosed with prostate cancer. He continued to work while taking treatments and went to work until the very last months of his life. Although he passed away at age 80, he left behind a number of lasting relationships forged through the two businesses. While Daisy Outdoor has gone through some organizational changes in the years since Jodean’s death, it’s still a family affair that is run with the traditional values and hard work that helped build the business.
