Abstract: An image forming apparatus communicates with an authenticating server which stores user information for identifying a user and authentication information included in a storing medium. An authentication requesting unit transmits the user information input to the image forming apparatus to the authenticating server to authenticate the user. An authentication result obtaining unit obtains the user authentication result from the authenticating server. A display unit displays a registering mode for registering the authentication information corresponding to the input user information and a deleting mode for deleting the authentication information corresponding to the input user information so that the modes can be selected according to the obtained authentication result.

Abstract: A printing apparatus for communication with a print managing apparatus is provided. The printing apparatus receives user input information, and based on the user input information, obtains list information on print data including print data identification information and list information on the user information from the print managing server. The printing apparatus selects print data to be output to another user from the print data indicated by the list information on the print data and further selects, from the list information on the user information, user information on the user which permits the selected print data to be output. The printing apparatus transmits, to the print managing server, the selected print data identification information and the selected user information to register the user identification information.

Abstract: To provide an authentication method of enabling a user to use a multifunction machine in which user information of the user is not registered on an authentication table thereof, without deteriorating a maintenance capability of the authentication table, the method is characterized to include steps of obtaining user information from the user, determining whether or not the obtained user information is included on a user information table, and transmitting, when the obtained user information is not included on the user information table, the user information to an image forming apparatus registered in a redirect destination list. The method is further characterized to cause the transmission-destination image forming apparatus to authenticate the transmitted user information, and permit use of the image forming apparatus by the user according to an authentication result of the transmission-destination image forming apparatus.
