This story of a blue collar father's fight for custody of his three daughter's from his blatantly selfish and irresponsible ex wife was excellent. Idris Elba is a woefully underrated actor from England who was perfect in this role. I have been a fan since seeing him in the dramatic film "Sometimes in April" which deals with the affect of the Rwandan genocide on two brothers who have opposing idealogies. In that film Idris was awesome as a family man with three children and a wife to protect while the world was spiraling out of control around them. If you haven't seen it, check it out Idris and the rest of the supporting cast are superb. Here in Daddy's Little Girl's Idris once again gives a honest, heart-felt performance. The chemistry between Idris and Gabrielle Union was great and I loved the date scene at the club where they first begin to really bond. Gabrielle was so amusing playing someone who loosens up after a couple of drinks and reveals a sweet heart under the tough "corporate woman" exterior, another one of my favorite scenes is how humorous she is when she gets home from the club. There wasn't one "false note" in her performance in the film, I enjoyed her throughout. The three girls in the movie are also biological sisters and were cast perfectly, they each have great talent and I am certain we will be seeing a lot of more of them. Lou Gossett is the headliner and his part as a mentor and friend to Idris is also a great addition to the cast. My least favorite character is the ex-wife's lover who grossly overplayed all of his scenes. Overall this is a feel good movie and Tyler Perry's most even-handed attempt at producing and directing. As mentioned the casting of the leading man and woman was right on point, far superior to all the other TP movies. Tyler is continuing to grow in his craft and I look forward to more family-friendly movies from him that deal with life's many challenges. P.S. I also loved the blues song performed live at the club where Idris and Gabrielle have their first date! Too bad its not on the soundtrack...a sad oversight.

I love Tyler Perry as a producer, actor, actress, Man of God - A snapshot of how hard it is to be a Black Man in America, and sometimes his own neighborhood. There are a plethora of good, strong, ethical, caring, concerned black men who do take care of the community. Just a glimpse of the many struggles, and proof again that faith, hope, and miracles can flip the script quickly, Thank you for another quality film!

easily my all time favorite tyler perry film. what i love most about this film is tyler perry tells it from both sides, not just one. You always hear about the deadbeat dads who never do what they're suppose to raising their kids but you never ever hear about the deadbeat mothers who don't or the ones who will do anything in their power to keep the kids from the men who actually want their kids and want to do right but won't allow the man to be with them and do so simply out of spite. well, this film showcases the honest hardworking father figure holding his three girls down while their deadbeat nonchalant mother is just making their lives a living hell as well as her ex husband dating a drug dealer and teaching her kids all kinds of wrong life values. 5 star at it's best and really makes you appreciate the good guys who do what they're suppose to do but don't get acknowledged or receive credit for their efforts and character.

Delightful romantic dramedy. Idris Elba is great in everything I've seen him do, and he's great in this as well, as a hardworking mechanic struggling to make a living and be a good father, while dealing with his druggie ex and falling for a young lawyer. Her character was a little predictable, as an uptight, well-educated successful attorney who first looks down her nose at and then falls for Idris Elba. Not a very sympathetic portrayal of the yuppie Black professional. I enjoyed this film which focuses on the strengths in middle class Black communities, and how they're struggling against crime, gang violence, and discrimination, but I didn't like the way they portrayed the successful young African American lawyer as such an uptight b**ch, until she rediscovers her roots.

I like the movie, because it sheds a different perspective on what good fathers go through when they are the more responsible and loving single parent. Idris Elba was excellent playing that role because he showed his vulnerability at the right time, the goodness and love he posessed for his daughters, and yet the human inperfect side of himself that still made mistakes in being a single father. Gabrielle Union and Tasha Smith were too totally different characters, but both played their parts well in demonstrating frustration men can have as well, when dealing with vindictiveness, greed, and cruelty from Tasha, but have to trust and know that there are wonderful women that have that love, patience, and kindness that we as women want as well and are willing to give if you except it from us. The other supporting cast such as Lou Gossett Jr, Melinda Williams, Cassie Davis, The girls grandmother, Tashas crooked boyfriend, and others were excellent in their roles and really helped to enhance the heart, soul, and realness of the movie. Highly recommend.
