DoraemonDoraemon (ドラえもん) is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Fujiko F. Fujio. First serialized in 1969, the manga's chapters were collected in 45 tankōbon volumes published by Shogakukan from 1974 to 1996. The story revolves around an earless robotic cat named Doraemon, who travels back from the 22nd century to help a boy named Nobita Nobi. The manga spawned a media franchise. Three anime TV series have been adapted in 1973, 1979, and 2005. Additionally, Shin-Ei Animation has produced over forty animated films, including two 3D computer-animated films, all of which are distributed by Toho. Various types of merchandise and media have been developed, including soundtrack albums, video games, and musicals. The manga series was licensed for an English language release in North America, via Amazon Kindle, by a collaboration of Fujiko F. Fujio Pro with Voyager Japan and AltJapan Co., Ltd. The anime series was licensed by Disney for an English-language release in North America in 2014, and LUK International in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Doraemon was well received by critics and became a hit in many Asian countries. It won numerous awards, including the Japan Cartoonists Association Award in 1973 and 1994, the Shogakukan Manga Award for children's manga in 1982, and the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize in 1997. As of 2024, it has sold over 300 million copies worldwide, becoming one of the best-selling manga series of all time. The character of Doraemon has been viewed as a Japanese cultural icon, and was appointed as the first "anime ambassador" in 2008 by the country's Foreign Ministry.

Nobita NobiNobita Nobi (Japanese: 野比 のび太, Hepburn: Nobi Nobita) is a fictional character and one of the main characters in the Doraemon anime and manga series created by Fujiko Fujio. Known as Sidney, Specky and Noby in some English localizations of the anime, Nobita is usually depicted as an elementary school student. The title character, Doraemon, is sent back in time by Nobita's future descendants to look after Nobita. Along with Doraemon, Nobita is considered to be one of the most popular and widely recognizable manga characters due to the series' popularity, which extends beyond its native Japan. He received criticism for his amorality and lack of personal growth, deemed as a harmful role model to children.

Stand by Me DoraemonStand by Me Doraemon (Japanese: STAND BY ME ドラえもん, Hepburn: Sutando Bai Mī Doraemon) is a 2014 Japanese animated science fiction comedy-drama film based on the Doraemon manga series and directed by Ryūichi Yagi and Takashi Yamazaki. It was released on 8 August 2014. It is the highest-grossing film of the Doraemon franchise. Bang Zoom! Entertainment premiered an English-dubbed version of the film at the Tokyo International Film Festival on 24 October 2014. Stand by Me Doraemon was commercially successful in Japan. It was number one on the box office charts for five consecutive weeks and was the second highest-grossing animated film of 2014 in Japan, with a box office total of $183.4 million, behind Disney's Frozen. In February 2015, the film won the Japan Academy Prize for Animation of the Year at the 38th Japan Academy Prize. A sequel was released on 20 November 2020 in Japan. The film is primarily based on the first chapter of the manga "All the Way From the Future", the 1973 chapter "Mountain Rescue", the 1980 chapter "Goodbye Shizuka", the 1984 chapter "Imprinting Shizuka", the 1998 short film "Doraemon Comes Back" and the 1999 short film "Doraemon: Nobita's Night Before a Wedding", though several other chapters are briefly brought up as well.

Doraemon: Nobita and the Birth of Japan 2016Doraemon: Nobita and the Birth of Japan 2016 (ドラえもん 新・のび太の日本誕生, Doraemon Shin • Nobita no Nippon Tanjō) is a 2016 Japanese animated science fiction adventure film written and directed by Shinnosuke Yakuwa. It is the 36th feature film of Doraemon franchise. It is a remake of the 1989 film Doraemon: Nobita and the Birth of Japan. The film is about the adventure of Nobita and his friend in Japan, 70,000 years ago. The taglines were "Friendship could cross over space-time", "Daddy, I saw the birth of Japan in 21st century", "We can see the birth of Japan in 21st Century" and "Some of the secrets only have in Japan". The film was released in Japan on 5 March 2016 and released in United States on 2 July 2016. It was adapted into a Nintendo 3DS video game, released March 3, 2016. It is available in the iTunes store with English subtitles in Malaysia and Singapore, and on DVD and Blu-ray with English subtitles in Hong Kong. This film was the 7th highest grossing Japanese film of the year. In September 2016, Indonesia's Film Censorship Board listed and registered both Shin Godzilla and Doraemon: Nobita and the Birth of Japan 2016.
