DELTA PILOTS STRIKE

DELTA PILOTS STRIKE

Thomson Jore

Delta Airline’s labor force has been in a long negotiation for higher pay and better schedules. It’s high time now and the pilots are no more patient and 15000 pilots have voted to authorize a walkout.

The airline pilots have agreed upon conducting a strike if the negotiators deny to accept their requests and agree upon the new contract.

Delta Airlines stated that the agreement would soon be reached and they would take care that the operations of the airlines would not be affected by such a strike.

ISSUES LEADING TO STRIKE

The strike authorization has been working under the agreement made in 2016. The renewal of the agreement was called upon in 2019 but was postponed due to the 2 pandemic years.

The pilots are proposing higher pay, more benefits, and better scheduling for flights, 10 weeks paid maternity leave, 2 weeks paid paternal leave, and reduced premium amounts for health insurance. The major part of the contract covers the proposals for better quality of life,

Out of 15000 pilots, 99% have voted in the favour of a strike. They believe that there should be a new contract catering to all their requisites, leaving a great message to Delta Management.

The union of Delta pilots is astonishing. Their union clearly defines that they are not at all happy with the management and their outlook toward the new agreement.

During the travel season, when the demands are so high, the pilots have hectic scheduling and it becomes difficult to work long hours and pick up overtime shifts. None wants to be under so much stress. This has been now a frustration for all of them calling for a walkout or a new agreement in their favor.

Numerous pilots were seen holding banners in their hands, asking the negotiators to cope with them or suffer a halt in the operations.

It is such an extreme step by the Delta pilots that no matter how much the management denies but is truly gonna affect the major operations of Delta Airlines.

The management stated that they would make it sure that the pilot’s pay are at least 1% higher than its competitor’s pilots pay.
