Death Becomes HerDeath Becomes Her is a 1992 American satirical surrealistic black comedy fantasy film directed and produced by Robert Zemeckis and written by David Koepp and Martin Donovan. The film stars Meryl Streep, Goldie Hawn, Bruce Willis, and Isabella Rossellini. Its plot follows two women who drink a magic potion that promises eternal youth, with surprising consequences. Filming began in December 1991 and concluded in April 1992; it was shot entirely in Los Angeles. Death Becomes Her was released in the United States by Universal Pictures on July 31, 1992. The film received mixed reviews from critics. It was also a pioneer in the use of computer-generated effects and went on to win the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects. The film is regarded as a cult classic and a highly treasured film within the queer community. It has since been adapted into a well-received 2024 Broadway musical.
Broadway theatreBroadway theatre, or Broadway, is a theater genre that consists of the theatrical performances presented in 41 professional theaters, each with 500 or more seats, in the Theater District and Lincoln Center along Broadway, in Midtown Manhattan, New York City. Broadway and London's West End together represent the highest commercial level of live theater in the English-speaking world. While the Broadway thoroughfare is eponymous with the district, it is closely identified with Times Square. Only three theaters are located on Broadway itself: the Broadway Theatre, Palace Theatre, and Winter Garden Theatre. The rest are located on the numbered cross streets, extending from the Nederlander Theatre one block south of Times Square on West 41st Street, north along either side of Broadway to 53rd Street, and Vivian Beaumont Theater, at Lincoln Center on West 65th Street. While exceptions exist, the term "Broadway theatre" is used predominantly to describe venues with seating capacities of at least 500 people. Smaller theaters in New York City are referred to as off-Broadway, regardless of location, while very small venues with fewer than 100 seats are called off-off-Broadway, a term that can also apply to non-commercial, avant-garde, or productions held outside of traditional theater venues. The Theater District is an internationally prominent tourist attraction in New York City. According to The Broadway League, shows on Broadway sold approximately US$1.54 billion worth of tickets in both the 2022–2023 and the 2023–2024 seasons. Both seasons featured theater attendance of approximately 12.3 million each. Most Broadway shows are musicals. Historian Martin Shefter argues that "Broadway musicals, culminating in the productions of Rodgers and Hammerstein, became enormously influential forms of American popular culture" and contributed to making New York City the cultural capital of the world.

Known primarily for his extensive roles on stage in musicals, he has received nominations for two Tony Awards, two Drama Desk Awards, and two Outer Critics Circle Awards. He was twice nominated for the Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Musical first at the 59th Tony Awards in 2005 for his portrayal of Sir Dennis Galahad in Spamalot, and then at the 63rd Tony Awards in 2009 for his portrayal of Lord Farquaad in Shrek the Musical. He recently starred in Broadway productions of The Prom (2018), Company (2021), and Death Becomes Her (2024).
Michelle Williams (singer)Tenitra Michelle Williams (born July 23, 1979) is an American singer and actress. She rose to fame in the early 2000s as a member of R&B girl group Destiny's Child, one of the best-selling female groups of all time with over 100 million records, of which more than 60 million copies sold with the trio lineup that included Williams. During her time in the group she earned several accolades including a Grammy Award and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. During the group's two-year hiatus, 2001–2003, Williams released her debut solo album Heart to Yours (2002) which topped the US gospel album chart and became the best-selling gospel release of the year. That same year, Billboard named Williams the fifth top-charting gospel artist of the year and she received a MOBO Award for "Best Gospel Act". Following this, she released her second solo album Do You Know (2004). After Destiny's Child's disbandment in 2006, Williams released her first pop album, Unexpected (2008), which spawned the singles "We Break the Dawn" and the US Dance number-one "The Greatest". Her fourth studio album, Journey to Freedom (2014), received positive reviews and became her highest-charting album in the US; it includes the singles "If We Had Your Eyes", and "Say Yes" which topped the US Hot Gospel Songs chart for seven weeks, and won the Stellar Award for Music Video of the Year. Williams has also ventured into acting, appearing in television, Broadway, and West End theatre productions. Making her acting debut on Broadway in Aida (2003), she has since starred in the sitcom series Half & Half (2006) and the musical productions The Color Purple (2007), Chicago (2009–10), What My Husband Doesn't Know (2011) Fela! (2013) and the original Broadway production of Death Becomes Her (2024). In addition, she received a nomination for "Best Lead Female – Equity" in 2008 at the 18th Annual NAACP Theatre Awards. Williams was a featured judge on MTV's Top Pop Group, a contestant on season 8 of Strictly Come Dancing in the United Kingdom, and has also appeared on the American, British, and Australian versions of The Masked Singer.
Megan HiltyMegan Hilty (born March 29, 1981) is an American actress and singer. She rose to prominence for her roles in Broadway musicals, including her performance as Glinda in Wicked, Doralee Rhodes in 9 to 5: The Musical, and her Tony Award–nominated roles as Brooke Ashton in Noises Off and Madeline Ashton in Death Becomes Her. She also starred as Ivy Lynn on the musical-drama series Smash, on which she sang the Grammy Award-nominated "Let Me Be Your Star", and portrayed Liz on the sitcom Sean Saves the World.
Jennifer SimardJennifer Simard (born August 8, 1970) is an American actress known primarily for her work in theater. A three-time Tony Award nominee, she rose to prominence with roles in Broadway and Off-Broadway productions in the 2000s, such as I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change, The Thing About Men and Forbidden Broadway: Special Victims Unit, nominated for a Drama Desk Award and Lucille Lortel Award for the latter. In 2016, Simard starred as Sister Mary Downey in Disaster!, receiving rave reviews and her first nomination for Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical. Between 2020 and 2022, she starred as Sarah in the Broadway revival of Company for which she received her second Tony nomination. Other Broadway credits include the 2017 revival of Hello, Dolly!, Mean Girls, and Once Upon a One More Time. Simard's screen credits include Somewhere in Queens, Law & Order and Younger.

It is based on the 1992 film of the same name directed and produced by Robert Zemeckis. It made its world premiere in May 2024 at the Cadillac Palace Theatre in Chicago, and moved to the Broadway's Lunt-Fontanne Theatre in November 2024. The original Chicago and Broadway productions received critical acclaim by theatre critics, for its score, book, production design, stunts, special effects, and humor with both Megan Hilty and Jennifer Simard receiving universal praise for their comedic timing, chemistry, and performances. It received a leading 10 nominations at the 78th Tony Awards (tying with Buena Vista Social Club and Maybe Happy Ending), including Best Musical.
