DC Kite Festival Highlights Spring Fun and Community

Washington, D.C. Celebrates Annual Kite Festival with Sky-High Fun

Washington, D.C. – March 29, 2025 – The skies over the National Mall were alive with color and creativity this weekend as thousands gathered for the annual DC Kite Festival, a beloved spring tradition celebrating art, culture, and outdoor fun.

Families, kite enthusiasts, and spectators flocked to the grounds near the Washington Monument on Saturday to witness a dazzling display of kites in all shapes and sizes—from giant dragons and octopuses to intricate geometric designs. The event, organized by the National Cherry Blossom Festival in partnership with local sponsors, drew participants from across the country.

'It’s a perfect day for flying kites—sunny with just the right breeze,' said Maya Rodriguez, a Maryland resident who attended with her two children. 'We come every year, and it never gets old.'

The festival featured kite-flying demonstrations by professional teams, including the renowned 'Kites in the Sky' performers, who choreographed their kites to music. A 'Kids’ Kite Zone' offered free kite-making workshops, where children crafted their own colorful creations before testing them in the wind.

'This event is all about joy and community,' said James Carter, one of the festival organizers. 'Seeing people of all ages come together, looking up at the sky and smiling—it’s what makes this festival special.'

In addition to the kite-flying, food trucks lined the Mall, offering everything from hot dogs to gourmet ice cream, while live music kept the atmosphere lively. The festival also highlighted sustainability, with eco-friendly kite materials encouraged and recycling stations set up throughout the area.

With clear skies and a steady breeze, this year’s DC Kite Festival proved yet again why it’s one of the city’s most anticipated spring events. As the sun set, the last kites descended, leaving attendees already looking forward to next year’s high-flying fun.
