Les nostres fonts d'informació sobre la figura de Soló són tardanes, i per tant poden contenir inexactituds. Autors com Heròdot o Aristòtil (Política, 1273b 35-1274a 21) fan esment de la seva obra, i sobretot disposem d'una biografia seva en les Vides Paral·leles de Plutarc.
