Cynthia Addai-Robinson (born January 12, 1985) is an English-born American actress. She is known for her roles as Naevia in the Starz television series Spartacus , DC Comics character Amanda Waller in The CW TV series Arrow , and Nadine Memphis on the USA Network series Shooter . She currently plays the role of Tar-Miriel on the Amazon Prime The Lord of the Rings series The Rings of Power .

Addai-Robinson was born in London; her mother is from Ghana and her father is a U.S. citizen. She moved to the U.S. when she was 4 and was raised by her mother in a suburb of Washington, D.C. [1] She graduated from Montgomery Blair High School in Silver Spring, Maryland and Tisch School of the Arts with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theater . In addition, she trained at Lee Strasberg Theater Institute [2] and in dance forms ballet , jazz and tap . She received some special forces-style training by Navy SEALs and New Zealand Special Air Service personnel during the filming of Spartacus: War of the Damned .

After participating in several various Off-Broadway plays, Addai-Robinson got her first role on television in 2002 in an episode of The Education of Max Bickford . In following years, she made small appearances on television shows like Law & Order: Trial by Jury , Law & Order: Criminal Intent , CSI: Miami , Numb3rs and Justice . In 2006, she was originally cast to play Melanie Barnett in the American sitcom The Game , [3] but was replaced by Tia Mowry for unspecified reasons prior to the show's production. [4] In 2009, she got her first recurring role on the ABC drama FlashForward as the character Debbie, a nurse. The same year she appeared in Tina Mabry 's independent film Mississippi Damned as Milena.

In 2011, Addai-Robinson made her big screen debut as the mother of Zoe Saldana 's character (played by Amandla Stenberg ) in Colombiana . [5]

Her biggest role came from 2012 to 2013 when she was cast as Naevia in the third season Spartacus: Vengeance and the fourth season Spartacus: War of the Damned after Lesley-Ann Brandt decided to leave the series. [6]

In early 2013, Addai-Robinson played Aja, a powerful witch who came to help Bonnie on The Vampire Diaries for two episodes. She made a brief appearance as an on looker in the crowd in the film Star Trek Into Darkness . She played Leslie in Jodi Arias: Dirty Little Secret , a television movie about the murder of Travis Alexander . [7] In September 2013, she was cast as the recurring character Amanda Waller in the hit The CW show Arrow . [8]

In March 2014, she was cast as Emily D. West in the History Channel 2015 miniseries Texas Rising . [9] Her performance was nominated for a Women's Image Network Award for Best Actress in a Drama Series. [10]

In January 2015, Addai-Robinson was cast in Gavin O'Connor 's The Accountant , alongside Ben Affleck and J. K. Simmons , playing a U.S. Treasury Department analyst. [11] The film was released in October 2016. [12]

In March 2016, it was announced that she would be taking over Emily Rios 's role from the television series Shooter as the female lead. [13]

Spartacus actress Cynthia Addai-Robinson reveals what it takes to win her heart
It’s never easy to balance work and romance. For London-born actress Cynthia Addai-Robinson, who plays slave-turned-warrior Naevia on Spartacus (the final season, Spartacus: War of the Damned , premieres January 25, 2013, at 9 p.m. EST), filming in New Zealand presents a “modern dilemma” about relationships.
“How do you incorporate a dating life,” she asks, “when at any moment you could be in another city for any extended period of time?”
Answer: Find a partner who’s up for the challenge. “You have to say to yourself that it’s worth the effort and that you’re choosing to make the sacrifices or go through the rough parts.” And don’t wait for the perfect time to jump in—it may not exist.

Men don’t understand how much women want to... be courted. I don’t know that modern-day courtship is really happening.
I like it when men express interest by... using simple gestures. Good old-fashioned flowers never hurt. That’s something that’s easy to do, and maybe it’s even a bit cliché in some situations. But I mean, I like flowers.
When you kiss me, remember... take your time. I personally don’t like to feel like I’m being attacked. There are times for the more passionate kiss, so that’s not necessarily a bad thing. But you can take your time and go slow.
The biggest reason men and women fight is... not being on the same page. It’s common to make assumptions about what the other person’s thinking, where they’re at, why they’ve done what they’ve done. Communication is key. And I think a lot of times it’s easier to assume, well, they said this—they probably meant that.
The first thing I look for in a man is... intelligence. I just like somebody who I can basically have a great conversation with. When I step away from a conversation and feel like I had a really great connection mentally, I’ll remember that.
If you’re meeting my friends... impress them. I always think the way to a woman’s heart is through her friends. The friends will be the ones who, after you walk away, will either be singing your praises or saying, “No, he’s not good enough.”
A woman’s body... is not her only asset. It’s easy to fall for the hot chick, the hot body, and that can be interesting for a few weeks. But if you don’t have the mind and the spirit and the heart there as well, you’re not going to be able to sustain anything long term. In an ideal world we’re all looking for the complete package. I’m certainly looking for that.
