My boyfriend began taking 60mg of Cymbalta daily about 3 weeks ago after trying several other medications for severe migraines. It worked wonders and completely changed his attitude! He was much more outgoing, no anxiety or mood swings and hasn't had a migraine since- BUT he totally lost his sex drive! It's like he wanted to, but couldn't. And when I finally got him to, it took forever to climax- not sure if it's a loss of sensation down there or what?! Is anybody else having this problem?
Yes, I am 60 and have been on many antidepressants , anxiety and narcotics. I have never had issues until I went from 30mg to 60mg. I have no problem maintaining an erection and can for hours. BUT! I can’t have an orgasm! I’ll spend my first two hours when I go to bed masturbating. I stay hard as a rock but nothing! I’m a walking definition of sexual frustrated. Sometimes I get lucky and if I stroke hard enough, fast enough and long enough I can blow. And boy do I ever. I have reduced to 30mg hoping to get back to having daily orgasms. I’m not your typical 60 year old. In great shape but I’m about ready to have a heart attack from beating myself raw.
I have been taking 60mg of Cymbalta since November 2019. It has not effected my desire to have intercourse, but getting and maintaining an erection has been hard to impossible. My thoughts, I don’t really care about the sexual side effects. Having an erection is not necessary for orgasm and pleasure. I prefer the Benifits that I have gained to combat the PTSD issues and suicidal thoughts. The benefits outweigh the side effects for me. Sex, I love it still it just takes on a different process.
Yep. I’m three weeks in on 60mg (duloxetine for depression) and the first thing I noticed was the old fella down there lost all interest with days. Just felt no arousal sensations at all - like rubbing one’s forehead.

Yes it does. I was on efexxor prior and let me tell that causes penial shrinkage. Dr gave me viagra to try to correct it. That did not work I never regained my original size. I was later placed on Cymbalta 60. My sex drive is almost non existent and the delay in orgasm which could be a few hours or not at all, even with masturbation is beyond frustrating.. These things may help with Clinical Depression but it also creates something else that makes it almost impossible to to have a love or social life.
I have taken 60MG for 10 years - true there is some impact on delayed orgasm for sure and maybe some overall sensation but it does lessen over time I feel and hasn't been an issue for me with women, its more annoying for me with the delayed orgasm ;) but tell him don't get discouraged and it won't be an issue worth talking about...
From the literature on Cymbalta: "Common (1% to 10% of users): Abnormal orgasm/anorgasmia, decreased libido, delayed ejaculation, ejaculation disorder, erectile dysfunction , urinary frequency
Uncommon (0.1% to 1% of users): Abnormal urine odor, dysuria, micturition urgency, nocturia, polyuria, sexual dysfunction, testicular pain, urinary hesitation
Rare (less than 0.1% of users): Decreased urine flow, menstrual disorder, urinary retention"
Yes it does affect sex drive ! It also keeps me from freely urinating. My Doctor has placed me on Viagra (Generic) and Flomax (Generic) and this helps tremendously! I am unable to take all of the others (Yes I have tried them all ) due to them making me feel like a zombie, tired all the time, unsteady walking, and etc. I hope this helps.
This has happened to me. My girlfriend says she would rather have me healthy than sexually active... as a man... I call BS!! If this is a permanent thing than I'm done with it.
I was on Paroxetine 20 mgs 1x day and I lost my sex drive . Now they are trying to get me off the med. But now they are giving me duloxetine 90 mg I was wondering if that would bring my sex drive back. I have MS.
I recently increased my dosage of Cymbalta from 30 to 60 mg, and it doesn't still doesn't seem to be as bad as when I was on Prozac. But what my research tells me is that different SNRIs and SSRIs effect different folks in different ways. So my suggestion is for your boyfriend to try a different drug. I don't know what his diagnosis is, but generally speaking, most of the drugs in the SNRI and SSRI class have similar effects and usually work for depression, anxiety, OCD, panic attack, etc. I'm just half-way through my Master's in Clinical Mental Health Counselor, some my answer is only half professional! :-)
I'm on Cymbalta 30mg for two months. It's actually increased my sex drive . The only thing I have noticed is a brief stinging sensation at the tip of my penis after ejaculation. And sometimes, it takes longer to come if Im a little distracted during the act.
It seems there are several opinions. I take so many meds that "may" impact this area I cannot say for sure which has done it. I searched the topic and there was a study that cabergoline had helped men with this problem.
For me there have not been enough studies, but you may want to check on it.
I am very observant when it comes to new sensations and side effects in my body and I can honestly say that I have noticed a slight physical side effect and also a mental side effect while taking Duloxetine ( Cymbalta ).
Firstly I am no longer really interested in sex and do not masturbate anymore. I used to perhaps do it a few times a day or most days just once. Now I only masturbate when I really feel the need too or when I feel like I am going to bust lol.
Don't get me wrong I still sit in a cafe on a warm sunny day and feel a very strong attraction to look at girls in summer dresses or short skirts! ... but part of me thinks "nah, I have more important things to do, I am better than that" lol, so I am not letting girls distract me fully, although now and again I see a really really pretty girl and I JUST STARE ! lol.
The physical side effect I noticed is when I ejaculate. It feels very powerful, and I get this sensation from right the back of my scrotum. It is not too uncomfortable, but it almost make me feel like I will pee after ejaculating - I never have, and it isn't a problem.
To be honest, the benefits of this medication outweigh any complications I seem to encounter... which are none.
I can tell you I have taken Wellbutrin and Cymbalta the reason I quit taking the Wellbutrin was because of this issue i went off Wellbutrin my sex drive came back erections orgasms everything and after going on Cymbalta it went away again
I am a 41 y.o.male and have noticed a serious problem. I have lost most of my sex drive (once or twice a month) and can't finish. Ever. Can I take Cialis or Viagra?

Hello peers,
I havebeentakiCymbaltafor ut a mth and a lf now, and it has really seemed to work rather well for my anxiety and depression along with pain control. The most negatve side effect I have gained from this drug is NOT the ability to have sex but rather the ability to ejaculate. I find it almost impossible to finish. My sex drive is there but my finishing stunt act is not. I am concernd of this as is my wife. Are there any other males suffering from this side effect..? Advice and or comments are open for disscusion with me.

Cymbalta is known to cause ejaculation problems. These problems are usually delayed ejaculation or an inability to ejaculate.

In clinical studies where the side effects of Cymbalta were documented, delayed ejaculation was reported in up to 5 percent of men taking Cymbalta. This problem was most common in men taking Cymbalta for anxiety (5 percent) and less common in men taking Cymbalta for depression (3 percent). This problem was not reported in men taking Cymbalta for nerve pain.

If you develop sexual side effects while taking Cymbalta, make sure to talk with your doctor. There is treatment that he or she may be able to recommend. Depending on the severity of your sexual side effects, he or she may also recommend that you adjust your Cymbalta dosage, or try another medicine.

on Cymbalta and yep same issue. Its very frustrating, other anti depressants have caused the same problem. At least with other anitdepressants i was ejaculating even if it was after 60 to 70 mins of very vigorous stimulation. Now no ejaculation at all and that has lead to imflammation of the testicles. OUCH!!!

I have experienced a very bad headache when i'm finally getting to a climax. Bad enough on the left side of brain to make me stop in the middle of sex right before i'm ready to ejaculate.

Okay so I talked with my pcp and he prescribed my a drug called Cyproheptadine it is an antihisthamine. Strange huh..? But it sure does do the job now. So anyone taking Cymbalta if you are having this problem ask your doc about this, boy does it work. ;-)

Does taking Cymablta help your sex drive? I talked to my doctor about ED and he thought taking this may help with the anxiety associated with ED. He doesn't think I have any physical concerns about ED. Thanks!

Yea, Have had the same problem with cymbalta, was able to get an erection, but could not ejaculate at all..no matter how much stimulation. Told my pcp about it and he said to take one Benadryle tablet 30 min before sex. It works great.

Cymbalta has caused delayed ejaculation for me ... however, the intensity of the orgasm has gone up significantly. In fact, the effects of orgasm tend to linger for up to an hour now afterwards ... definitely a feature, not a bug. Also, Cymbalta seems to have revved up my sex drive significantly.

I'm with a new girlfriend and the delayed ejacualtion is driving me crazy. I get so tired, I just give up after 45 minutes or so. I've gone off of it, but the issue is not only the depression, but the lower back pain. So do I suffer with the low back pain and go off it or stay on it and not be able to ejaculate. This is a big dilemma!!!

did u take Cyproheptadine instead of Cymbalta or with Cymbalta ?

i took cyproheptadine 2mg an hour before sex--seemed to help. Thats only half of the std 4 mg dose. I would start at 2mg and go to 4 next time and see if it makes a difference. My ejaculation problem in general has gotten better since my last post 2 months ago .I dont always use the cypro. Volume of ejaculate is much less then pre-cymbalta days. Im at 45 mg per day.

Although TheGeeze's response is over a year old, one point made was that Cymbalta had not been found to have this side effect in men with nerve pain. Well, meet ME! Cymbalta was prescribed for nerve pain, although I ought to be pressed after more than 5 years of suffering. Within a week of my first dosage of Cymbalta I could not ejaculate or even feel an orgasm. I will definitely see my doctor about this, now that I know so many others have the same side effect.

Hi there how old are you? I was using Cymbalta and had always the need to have sex indeed, but having stopped it I ejaculate less actually but I do remember it was hard not to control the ejaculation...
