(Negative stars not permitted, unfortunately...) Believe the bad reviews written here by burned customers. The positive reviews must be written either by the author or people indebted to her. This is an AWFUL "book" -- and I use the term loosely. I would have thought that a worse book about the porn industry than Luke Ford's could not have been written , but I would have been wrong. This, uh, OBJECT is definitely on my list of all-time worst books *ever* published. In fact, the general appearance of the book indicates it may be a vanity press affair -- odd type face, double-spaced lines (!!!), lack of standard publishing info, etc. It is a sub-literate effort. Badly spelled, with poor grammar and syntax, each plodding 5th-grade declarative sentence piled onto the last one in an endless tedious progression. It is PAINFUL to read! Apart from being atrociously written, the overall story also manages to be somehow both boring and trivial. It's not even good gossip, just the settling personal grudges by someone who is, maybe, not the sharpest pencil in the box. So-and-so is mean; somebody else is a drunk; another guy is an OK guy. Pow! Zap! Dull! Pointless! And as someone has already pointed out, this screed is only very VERY tenuously related to anything at all to do with the adult film industry. You'll be annoyed at the incompetence and aimlessness of this effort, and I guarantee will learn nothing significant. Save your money - sooner or later somebody will write a decent book about adult movies.
I totally agree with S.K.'s review, and have a hard time figuring what book the good reviews were from. I tried to read it, but could only get about half way through it. It seems like they printed the original unedited manuscript. I can overlook a few typo's, but this filled with either no editing or really bad editing that it became too much of a chore to continue reading. After skimming chapters in the last half of the book I found that it just continues to read like a first draft manuscript. I finally gave up trying to read this manuscript about half way through the book......Aside from that this isn't really about the creative side of the industry, but rather about the packaging and distribution aspect of the adult film industry. It would be like reading about the rigors of a corporate mail room to get a picture of what the coporation is really like. It would basically be viewing the corporation from the bottom looking up. If you're interested in the behind the scenes look and the perspectives of those involved with the actual filming of adult films, then this is definately not the book you're looking for.
What little semblance of a story this poorly written book has revolves around a woman who seemingly can't get along with anyone (her co-workers, her bosses, her business partner, her ex-husband, her boyfriends). In fact, this book has no story. It's simply unconnected rants against all them what's done her wrong (and, boy, there's a lot of `em). And while it's sometimes interesting to watch dirty laundry being aired in public (see reality TV), trust me, you'll have no interest in the "juicy" tidbits she offers (typical example: the stock boy stacks the videos too high in the warehouse). Who cares?! The only connection this has at all to the porn industry (and it's remote one at best) is that she happened to have a low-level job doing post-production for a third-tier video company. She may as well have worked at the DMV for all the information and insight you'll get on the industry from this book. Some good insight or scandal might have saved this book. But she has nothing to say and no writing skills to say it.
Beware: before you buy this book you have to know that the extent of this woman's knowledge of the 'industry' comes from having worked the back office in small-time post-production companies that sell porn. Ms. Bridge's writing is best described as a diatribe against former employers who happened to be in the business of obtaining and re-selling adult film material. It is a self-indulgent, poorly written rant devoid of any sympathy for of the people she writes about (co-workers, not actors or producers). They end up being one-dimensional cardboard caricatures, with no attempt at a greater understanding of their lives or indeed a reason why we might care to read about them at all. Far from zipping through the book in a day, as I had originally thought when I bought it, I was surprised to have to struggle to make it through the first chapter. I finally gave up 70% of the way into it.
Not only is this book vindictive and petty, it is also boring. Not only is this book vindictive, petty and boring, it is so poorly edited that if I had a dollar for every glaring grammatical or spelling error on its pages, I'd be able to afford a lot more books on the same subject that are much more informative and entertaining. Interestingly, I noticed on the inside cover that my copy had been revised. Why did anyone bother? DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY OR YOUR TIME!
I'm asking for my money back. There's almost nothing in the book about the porn industry. It's the experience of an uneducated woman's job as an editor in the business but her perspective is so limited that she could be talking about any business. It's 200 pages - large font and double spaced. One look inside and you'll know you've been scammed. Doesn't Amazon have some responsibility to its customers not to shill such books for publishers? This is my second experience here of paying a premium price for a highly touted book that ended up being ludricrously misrepresented.
This is, without a doubt, the worst book I have read in the last two decades. The author seems to be functionally illiterate, and the subject matter is just plain dull. The book apparently went to press without the benefit of proofreading, much less editing. Furthermore, I am convinced that the few positive reviews that appear below were written by the author's mother (or, perhaps, the author herself). In short, if you are considering buying this book, save your money, unless you are seeking a surefire cure for insomnia.

You will find out how much the actors/actress are making as of today, how this on the fringe industry can't really make money unless they bootleg one or two competitors products and what will happen if you get caught with the fingers in the cookie jar.
This book also tells about backstabbing bosses, drugs, booze, extortion, and so much more but last of course the sex. This book is written by an editor that turned her back on the industry. There will be revealed how much it costs to make a DVD from shooting the scene to the actual cost of creating the sleeve and duplication; about the different 'legitimate' filmmakers involved, and where blank videos that use to have content of Disney's movies such as "Mulan" and many others come from.
This is a secretive and many times dangerous industry and this book will give a different and 'sober' look into the industry that so many others have written about when they were under the influence, this one is from an unknown editor that slammed the door in their faces by revealing everything.

Cut-throat competition is defined as the situation where competitors try to eliminate others from the business by using destructive practices. Take the example of current e-commerce industry. Almost every company is burning its cash pile just to attract customers and deprive other companies from business. For this, they offer heavy discounts, put up prices well below the cost thus compensating sellers from their pocket.
This is unsustainable in the long run and cannot be achieved infinitely. But, for the time being, this is the cut-throat competition going on in the e-commerce industry. This situation arises where there are too many sellers offering similar products and targeting same segment of customers. Hence, the only option for these companies is to eliminate others. Hence, they follow destructive or unfair practices.
There may be several reasons for the companies to employ cut-throat competition. Some are mentioned here:
i. When there are seasonal drop in demand, then companies have to fight hard to retain their profit level. So, they predate on the business of other companies and engage in cut-throat competition.
ii. When there is persistent drop in demand due to change in technology or regulatory policy, companies often lose business which they haven’t thought of. Hence, they got no other option but to gather whatever is left from the market.
iii. When the entry barriers are low in the market, a new player with loads of investor’s money or disruptive innovation may enter which intimidate existing players. If the new player decides to play aggressive, then the result is often cut-throat competition
iv. When the supply exceeds in the market, then every player tries to clear its inventory and sell its products at very low prices which may also lead to cut-throat competition.
Hence, this concludes the definition of Cut-Throat Competition along with its overview.
