So I'm 11.5 months into breastfeeding and my second born child has 4 teeth on top and 2 on the bottom. I now have a cut on the base of one nipple that isn't healing because every time he nurses it opens back up. He doesn't really bite down anymore but the teeth are scraping against the open cut and it keeps opening back up. I'm down to nursing just twice a day on that side during the weekends with block feeding. At work I'm hand expressing that side because even pumping is excruciating since the base of the nipple is rubbing against the flange. Hand expressing 5-6 oz on that side these last few days is exhausting!!
In any case, I've tried nipple butter before and after nursing, the lansinoh hydrogel pads, hand expressing instead of pumping or nursing (but he won't take a bottle from me and hubby is out of town this week), and even got a nipple shield which he'd used his first month but now just cries and then rips it off of me. I've had this cut for a week now and i really want to be able to hit the one year mark before weaning. Any tips or advice to sustain me over the next couple of weeks? TIA!!
Have you tried different nursing positions? Or check with an LC, maybe they have some recommendations. Hope it heals soon!
Thanks!! Yes, side laying position works better but in the morning my toddler climbs into bed with us and the baby gets super distracted when he's around. And at night I nurse to sleep and usually he's satisfied with just the one side that's not cut but tonight he cried for more so I offered the cut side (not prepared with nipple butter) and it opened back up again :(:::::
You've already tried everything I was going to suggest so the only thing I have left is air. Just wear a super loose t shirt and no bra and try to get as much air on it as possible. Maybe so prescription bacitracin or something could help too?
Thank you! I was going to try Neosporin (same thing right?) but the one we have is expired so I'm going to grab some tomorrow. I am afraid of infection since it keeps opening up. I would love to go bra free but the girls are too big for that lol and it ends up just scraping the t-shirt and hurting even more :/ over the weekend even wearing a nursing bra hurt and I ended up just slathering on nipple butter and wearing a nursing pad which helped. Those hydrogel pads which I ordered and paid extra for one day delivery are a lifesaver!!
mix salt with warm water and rinse your nipple after every feeding. the saliva from the babys mouth wont allow the cut to heal properly thats why it is important to rinse clean after each feeding. also after the rinse apply coconut oil to the area. try to sleep without a shirt at night to let your nipple breath and air dry. coconut oil is natural and safe for your baby to bf without having to wipe off. good luck!!!
Thanks! I've been putting breast milk on it after nursing but will try the salt bath! I really can't go without a shirt or a bra unfortunately. I nurse on the cut side in the morning and right after that it's a mad rush to get 2 kids fed and out the door for day care and work. Plus we've had a contractor working on our house the last few months and sometimes he gets in early. He has a key to our house so I'd hate to give him an eyeful of the tatas hanging out!!
You might have to wash it off before nursing, but you could try aquaphor. I have put that on cut/irritated skin and it has healed overnight.

I'd agree with the salt water... I did one cup warm water to 1/2tsp salt and I let it soak for a minute.

Have you tried the medela thera shells? They gave them to me in the hospital but I only recently used one after I got a milk blister. Keeps a small barrier between your nipple and clothing and has small air holes to breath. You just stick it in your bra. With the right shirt you can't even see it. A 24-year-old woman's nipples were cut off when she refused to being pushed into flesh trade by the manager of a brothel at Hanuman tekdi in Bhiwandi. She also tortured her by inflicting cigarette burns and was kept in an isolated room. The victim pleaded them to take her to the hospital but the refused.

After a couple of days, the victim's cries were heard by a passerby. He then lodged a complaint with the police. The police rushed to the place, rescued the woman and took her to Indira Gandhi hospital. But the doctors there recommended her to be shifted to the Thane civil hospital. The victim is in a state of shock and is not speaking to anyone, said a Thane civil hospital source.

Police inspector A Saspe from Bhiwandi police station said: "We have caught the woman behind this heinous act — Rubi Munshi, The other two accused, the victim's her brother Alam and Afzal are absconding.

We are yet to take the victim's statement."
The accused has been booked under section 325, 326, 370 of IPC.

The victim was allegedly brought from Gujarat allegedly by her brother after her parents sold her to a pimp.
