"Culture and Perception in International Dispute Resolution: Exploring Mediation, Ad Hoc Arbitration, and Limits of Consent" at SCW 2025

Russian Women in Arbitration (RWA) were delighted to hold an event on “Culture and Perception in International Dispute Resolution: Exploring Mediation, Ad Hoc Arbitration, and Limits of Consent” under the auspices of Singapore Convention Week 2025.

The event took place on 29 August 2025 at the premises of WongPartnership LLP with a picturesque view on the Marina Bay, and gathered lawyers from Singapore, Russia, India, Canada, the United Kingdom, China, Cambodia, and other jurisdictions.

The panel discussion featured:

• Anna Avdulova, Member of the RWA Steering Committee and Senior Associate at Ivanyan and Partners, Moscow;

• Alessa Pang, Partner at WongPartnership LLP, Singapore;

• Shaneen Parikh, Partner at Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas, Mumbai;

• Dr. Minli Tang, Partner at AllBright Law Offices, Shanghai.

Margarita Drobyshevskaia, Member of the RWA Steering Committee and Deputy Counsel at the Singapore International Arbitration Centre, moderated the discussion.

The speakers discussed the demand for arbitration and mediation in their countries and contemplated ad hoc arbitration in comparison with institutional arbitration. They also shared insights on the positive ongoing reforms in the field of ADR in their jurisdictions. Thanks to the participants of the event who provided valuable comments and practical advice, the discussion came off even more engaging.

After the discussion, the participants enjoyed a festive reception organised with the support of Ivanyan and Partners. To mark the event and make it more memorable, RWA prepared gifts: traditional Russian candies, marshmallows and gingerbread cookies (known in Russia as “zephir” and “pryaniki”), as well as postcards inspired by Moscow and Russian culture.
