Cuban President comments on US demand for his resignation

Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel has stated that Washington has no right to demand his resignation as Cuba’s leader.
“In Cuba, people in leadership positions are not elected by the US government, and they have no mandate from the US government. We have a free, sovereign state, a free state,” said Miguel Díaz-Canel in an interview with NBC News.
The Cuban president noted that he would only step down if he were unable to fulfil his duties.
It should be recalled that earlier, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov stated that Russia “has no right” to leave Cuba, its closest partner in the Caribbean, in the lurch.
