HAVE you ever had sex SO good it made you break down in tears? For some women, that is their reality almost every time they orgasm.
While it may be worrying for their shocked partners, it’s not for any negative reasons, but an overwhelming feeling of emotion and pleasure.
Sarah Bird, 36, a retail worker from Harrow, worried her boyfriend of eight years Aaron Edwards, 30, when she first burst into tears after a steamy night of fun.
'Crymaxing' is more common than you might think - with one study finding nearly half of us have experienced feelings of sadness, anxiety, agitation or aggression immediately after sex.
Speaking exclusively to Fabulous Digital, Sarah tells her story…
We clicked instantly. From the moment I met Aaron, I knew he was the love of my life. We’d both been in previous relationships but it wasn’t the real deal.
When we first had sex, it felt physically like it’s supposed to feel, and I was so overwhelmed – but just as I reached the point of orgasm I burst into tears.
It had never happened to me before. I’ve never been much of a crier, but I couldn’t help myself. It’s weird, nothing else starts it – not even foreplay!
My 28-year-old self was feeling so many emotions at the same time: upset, embarrassed, surprised.

Aaron was worried that I cried because I didn’t want to sleep with him, but it didn’t take long before we were back in the bedroom.
I managed to get through a few months before my next breakdown, but six months later, it happened again. I’ve found it happens every six months or so now.
It’s weird, there’s so many things that have brought on the tears.
Sometimes, when we’re in a really good place in our relationship, it’ll be tears of joy. At the same time, if we’re having a bad few weeks, I’ll get upset.
But it wasn’t just the emotions, it was the pleasure, too.
Crymaxing is the experience where a man or woman cries during or after an orgasm.
It's a type of post-coital dysphoria (PCD) - where someone experiences feelings of sadness, anxiety, agitation or aggression immediately after sex.
These feelings can last from five minutes to a couple of hours.
Robert Schweitzer, a researcher at Queensland University of Technology in Australia, conducted a study into the phenomenon - and found 46% of those taking part had experienced PCD at least once.
After an orgasm, our brains release Oxytocin to promote feelings of trust, empathy and connection.
But this hormone can also provoke the release of emotions you've been holding in - about anything in your life.
This can evoke anything from laughter to tears - depending on the person.
For me, missionary works a treat. It’s intimate, and we find it’s easier for penetration. We would never stop using that position, we’ve moved past the tears.
Mostly, I put the tears down to being with a partner who is great in bed and the feelings we have for each other.
Although we’ve got used to it, it doesn’t stop it being awkward at times.
