In recent years an alarming number of tourists are visiting Mexico not for the beaches and booze, but for the brothels.
As if this weren't bad enough, now Mexico is being used as a bridge to bring sex slaves, often underage, into the US, Japan and other developed countries, according to reports by Reuters.
Depending on what news source you look at, there are as many as 5000 child sex slaves in Mexico - calling them prostitutes just makes it sound too much on the up-and-up. The age of consent varies from region to region based on local laws, but is as low as 12 in some areas and under certain circumstances (people in the countryside get married young). On the whole, however, the general trend is toward creating a higher age of consent of 18 years. Prostitution is legal in most parts of the country (prostitutes must be 18 or older); however, this hasn't stopped pedophilia rings from profiteering in the trade of children.
Things may be changing. New laws in the US have made it possible to prosecute Americans who have had sex with children even if it occurred outside of its borders. And public awareness of and indignation about this issue has grown, even in Mexico.
If you're serious about your partying, consider a 'Party Hopper Package,' available at most of the lobby tour offices or at other travel agents downtown. Usually M$400 to M$500 will buy all you can drink at four or five of the popular clubs; some packages include van transportation.
The following four clubs are clustered along the northwest-bound side of Blvd Kukulcán, all within easy stumbling distance of each other. Be careful crossing the street.
Coco Bongo (Map p75; § 883-5061; Forum Mall; S 10:30pm-5am) This is often the venue for MTV's coverage of spring break, and tends to be a happening venue just about any day of the week. The club opens with celebrity impersonators, dancers and circus acts (clowns, acrobats and the like) for an hour or so, then the rock, pop and hip-hop start playing.
Dad/O (Map p75; § 800-234-9797; Blvd Kukulcán Km 9; S 10pm-4:30am) Opposite the Forum Mall, this is one of Cancún's more elaborate dance clubs. The setting is a five-level black-walled faux cave with a two-level dance floor and what seem like zillions of laser beams and strobes. The predominant beats are Latin, house, techno, trance and hip-hop, and the crowd is mainly 20-something.
Bulldog Café (Map p75; § 883-1133, ext 544; Blvd Kukulcán Km 9; S 10pm-late) Bills itself as 'the home of rock and roll,' and features live bands and a jumbo Jacuzzi that's made to look a bit like a cenote but is really just a showcase for bikini-clad staff to splash around. Look for the giant bulldog sign outside and you'll know you've found the right place.

has anyone ever been to a strip club in cozumel? how was it and would you go back again?
There are a number, but I suspect the family-oriented nature of this board may prevent some people giving details..!
Black and White is supposed to be the best on the island. I have not been to this one, but........

The Black and White is fun, late at night. There are a couple of others, kind of hidden, that are down near the Coca Cola plant. The Green House downtown....too many witnesses.
The Caribbean Queen used to be a riot. It was the oldest brothel on the island. It is now closed due to BS local politics. If you can believe it, since I live here, they used to actually give me a line of credit out there. When you got a line of credit at a brothel, you know you are living right.

There's a "gentleman's club" with a big sign after you exit town heading south towards Chankanaab turnoff, by a Phillipino restaurant. Appears to do a decent business, we always see cars parked along the road there. Though they might just be at the restaurant.
You will see a number of clubs, which likely cater to ship crews, in the area just opposite the piers. I forgot about them until recently until reading the immigration people did a sweep of the clubs looking for undocumented workers. They arrested many but had one problem--turns out most were actually Mexican ladies. Oops.

Just wondering what gentlemen's clubs are currently open and what the climate would be toward a group of girls and guys?
There are several near the Coca Cola building on 65. Platino's being the highest quality. No problem if both guys and girls go in as a matter of fact I am sure that the ladies that work there are very friendly towards lady patrons. Unless you have a DD take a cab if you intend to drink as there can be check points for drinking in that area. Nothing starts happening in general until after 10 pm.

I don't pay people to take their clothes off. If they don't do it for free, I'm not interested!
No one is saying you have to pay tons of $ to watch girls take their clothes off, we went with a large group of guys and girls just for the fun atmosphere, unfortunately the place we went was acting real shady and wanted $50 cover per, and attempted to tell our cabs to take off. I believe it was Platino's but easily could be mistaken, it seemed like a nice higher class place inside.

Did this in ?Mazatlan years ago. They let the women in, but made the men line up and they couldn't come in until later. That was a pissed off line of men (my husband included) - LOL!
Are these the same folks who complain about showing up at the airport three hours ahead of departure so they can get that extra hour of beach time? But they waste (in my opinion) many more hours prior to departure.
