A Cowgirl's Story is a 2017 American family film written and directed by Timothy Armstrong and starring Bailee Madison , Chloe Lukasiak and Pat Boone . It is the third film in the Cowgirls 'n Angels series .
Seventeen year old Dusty Rhodes ( Bailee Madison ) goes to live with her grandfather ( Pat Boone ) because both of her Army parents are fighting in the Afghanistan war. Dusty attends a new high school where she makes friends with a group that includes Savanah ( Chloe Lukasiak ), a goth
girl whose late father also served in the Army. Dusty convinces her new friends to form an equestrian drill team that allows them to perform at rodeos and parades. Dusty's world is turned upside down by the war when her mother goes missing after her helicopter is shot down. To cope with her fear and helplessness, Dusty enlists the help of her grandfather and friends to put on a special riding performance for her parents and all of the soldiers fighting overseas. The entire town turns out in support of the event, and it becomes an unforgettable experience for everyone.
In May 2016, Bailee Madison was confirmed to be starring in the film as well as acting as a producer. [2] Chloe Lukasiak joined the cast later in the same month. [3] [4] [5] Corlandos Scott was cast to play a detective in the film. [6]
James Plath of Family Home Theater gave the film a grade C, and wrote: "The biggest problem with A Cowgirl's Story is that everything is too far-fetched, familiar, or unbelievably easy." [7] [8] [9]

There are just so many things about this movie that make it hard to watch. The main character, Dusty, shows up at her rural Texas school surrounded by ranches and is mocked for wearing cowboy boots? There's an Army base in the town and yet she is scoffed at for trying to raise funds for the troops? Huh? Her 35-40 year old dad (who's still only a 2nd lieutenant?!) somehow has a beard and mustache? When did the army change that rule? Her mom is referred to as lieutenant and yet wears the rank of a major? Dusty suddenly gets classmates to sign up for her equestrian team and even though none of them have ever ridden before suddenly they're all performing? There are 8 girls on horses in the events and yet only 5 of them are ever seen together elsewhere? Her dad is sent away to war without warning (right in the middle of the Sadie Hawkins dance of course) and then gets injured. Lo and behold he is somehow flown all the way back home without any notice from the Army. Then mom's helicopter is shot down and she's lost. A massive rescue operation ensues and then she too, without notice or communication of any kind, appears at home, right at her daughters event (where the only person who's been told what's going on is the announcer), unscathed! (Why was she sent all the way home if she's uninjured?) Wow! So she was found, but they didn't tell anyone, then brought back to the base, but didn't tell anyone, then shipped all the way home (how many hours over how many flights would that be?) and she somehow knows to go the rodeo and not home??? Oh please! I know this is made for kids but even my 11 year old was rolling her eyes at how dumb this all was.
While watching this year's Rose Parade on New Year's Day, one of the horse riding groups was mentioned during the narration. Upon the end of the parade, I went online to find the movie that gives the whole story behind the Cowgirl Story. Having Pat Boone as part of the cast was a bonus. I love true stories, especially when it includes young ladies finding a rewarding path in their lives.
My favorite Actress in this show is Chloé Lukasiak, I loved her since I watched Dance Moms
Bailee Madison probably co-produced this movie because most of the scenes have a young persons' touch-- It is a colorful alive movie ( like Raise Your Voice ...Hilary Duff ) or ( Chasing Liberty...Mandy Moore) that I also own on DVD. The only difference in the " production value" of those movies and this one is that more was spent on the horses and costumes and high-school interactions and less on Aerial Shots and Pop songs over the scene-openers. I like the casting of the black woman principal and the happy ending of both parents being alive at the rodeo. I hope to see some of the same actors in comedies and dramas that are just as watchable in future movies. ( The only sad element is the horse dying , something like Little Blackie in True Grit...) Absolutely a wonderful movie. Bailee Madison is a great actress. Absolutely tugs at your heart strings. 5 Stars. Highly Recommend!
What a wonderful family movie. I've watched it 3 times, and this is sure to become a classic. Bailee Madison is an established actress, and it shows!. Very impressed. Chloe Lukasiak is fairly new as an actress, and I cannot wait to see what this young talent is in next. I believe this is her second movie, but you'd think she has been acting her whole life. She is a natural!. The two main stars of this film need to do another film together!. They compliment each other as actors. This film is about family, friends, the pain of having a parent fighting for our Country in a foreign land, perseverance, and growing up the best way you can. I guarantee everyone will want to put this movie in their library. It's a keeper!.. beautiful cinematography, and the gorgeous horses, the well written storyline! This is going to keep you wanting more...
I purchased this DVD because Bailee Madison had the lead, and I have really enjoyed her acting abilities and the quality of the movies in which she has been involved. I was also pleasantly surprised to learn that she also produced this movie.T
This was truly a movie about relationships and the difficulties that surround military families. The drama may have been too much in terms of different plots, but this movie tightened every loose end that it displayed. In this movie there was so much going on, and so much happened so fast, but I really feel we saw her friendship with Chloe’s character flourish and grow. Chloe truly grasped the meaning of her lines, and as the lines came out she moved with them and emoted with every word. Bailee really carried the plot of this movie, and hit every scene with grace and power. Froy Guitteraz and Aidan Alexander performed well , but it was truly Ms. Madison and Ms. Lukasiak who stole the show.
Do not be fooled by the cover, this is not just a film about girls riding horses. There is a lot of family life as both of Bailee's parents are in the army and there is personal life at the new school she goes too. My sister and i liked the movie, i was surprised at a few things that took place.
