Sex Therapy is for secure couples or individuals seeking help for dissatisfaction in their sex lives.
Most couples go through periods where sex is more or less frequent but sometimes it can be difficult to get the physical intimacy back, particularly if there has been an emotional impact on the couple relationship.
Sex Therapy or Psychosexual Therapy (PST) as it is also known, is a therapeutic service that delivers a carefully planned treatment programme to help adult couples and individuals, of any sexual orientation, with specific sexual concerns.
Couples may present with one or more issues, such as:
Using therapy based on a cognitive behavioural approach, Sex Therapy is much more directive than some counselling services. Depending on the main areas of concern, most therapy begins with an assessment phase, followed by a bespoke treatment plan designed specifically to meet the needs of the clients.
Psychosexual Therapists are not trained to make a medical diagnosis and therefore clients are encouraged to see their GP if they have any concerns regarding their physical functions. However, therapists regularly work with couples coping with underlying medical conditions that impact on sexual functioning. This could include urological issues, cancers, menopause or simply the side effects of on-going medication.
As with some other therapies, Sex Therapy is not currently regulated in the UK. Qualified clinicians should be a member of a professional association and adhering to their code of ethics.
At present, the College of Sexual and Relationship Therapists (COSRT) is the UK's leading organisation for therapists specialising in sexual and relationship issues.

People seek out mental health support or therapy at different times in life and for many different reasons. Many seek out therapy for sexual issues and sex psychology each year, searching for nearby sex therapists.
Sex therapy can treat many different types of sex-related challenges impacting one's physical or mental health. Sex therapy can help people who have intimacy issues, provide support for those who have experienced sexual trauma, answer questions about your sexual health and sexuality, and can start the process of healing for those who are addicted to sex. There are so many different uses for sex therapy that you will often find many different people with wildly varying backgrounds attending these online therapy services .
If you are experiencing some issues in your sex life or with your sexual health (such as sexual dysfunction or erectile dysfunction, lack of sex drive, performance anxiety, or questions around your sexual orientation), then you might be wondering, “Should I try to find a sexual therapist near me?” The truth is that seeing a mental health professional or sex therapist depends on what is going on in your life. If any of your issues are related to intimacy in some way, then you may benefit greatly from seeking out sex therapy. Take a look at some of the reasons why you may wish to seek out a certified sex therapist so that you can gain a better understanding of the issue and begin dealing with any concerns you may have regarding sex or your sexuality.
Are you trying to find a sex therapist near you, but don't know where to find a sex therapist or what one of these mental health professionals is? A sex therapist is a mental health professional that is not that different from any other type of therapist, especially when it comes to mental health training. Sex therapy is going to involve talk therapy or talking about your sexual problems with the sex therapist/mental health professional and determining what is holding you back either physically or in terms of your mental health. In the case of having intimacy issues, the point of the sex therapy may be to help you to open up about your sexuality. Some people have problems with body image or stress and will not be able to have fulfilling romantic relationships until they address their sex issues or these issues with their mental health.
Sometimes a sex therapist will have different therapy exercises or suggestions that they will want the patient to try out. All of these will be non-sexual and will help the patient to open up and talk more about their sexuality. Getting over sex hang-ups is a big part of this therapy. This also works the other way around when the sex therapist is dealing with those suffering from an addiction.
People also see these mental health professionals due to being addicted to intercourse, masturbation, and pornography. When these sexual indulgences become too prevalent in someone’s life, they can throw everything off-balance. Sex therapists will try to help these patients to find a balance in life to overcome their addictions.
Sex addiction therapy is among the most common types of sex therapy. As mentioned above, some people can become addicted to sex for various reasons. This means sex can get in the way of them being able to enjoy real fulfilling relationships with people who will love them. Sex therapy with a mental health professional is one method of individual therapy that can help these people to get back to enjoying healthier sexual practices, whether it is done as in person or online therapy.
A sex therapist that specializes in sex addiction will work closely with patients to assess their needs and reason for the desire. Some people have very severe sexual addictions, and others will have milder problems with desire. Either way, the sex therapist will work with patients to help them break their old habits and focus on their mental health as well as sexual health. It will take a commitment to the process and to the mental health professional, and it is not always easy. Regardless, many sex therapy techniques and can help people in this situation.
Some sex addicts may need to go through a sort of “sexual detox.” This means that a person may benefit from abstaining from all sexual activity for a certain period. The simple act of sex or intimacy is too tempting for individuals who are in a fragile state like this, and they need to figure out how to live without it. Sex is an incredible thing, but too much of a good thing will wind up being a detriment. This is where it helps to find a sex therapist that specializes in sex addiction.
After working with a sex addiction professional for some time, these patients will make improvements. They should be able to enjoy normal and healthy intimacy relationships once the therapy has reached a certain point. People dealing with this need compassionate professionals who can guide them down a safer path. If you suffer from a type of sex addiction, then you should know that it is possible to turn things around for the better.
Intimacy concerns are also common and why many people may search for a “find a sex therapist near me” or "sexual therapist near me". Many people have intimacy problems due to body image issues or emotional trauma that is associated with unwanted sexual events in their past. These are difficult sexual issues to deal with, and you will want to seek out a skilled sex therapist if you are struggling. Having issues being intimate with someone that you love or are in a marriage with can be frustrating and cause concerns, but it is something that you can work on overtime with your sex therapist or mental health professional.
Looking to find a sex therapist or mental health professional that specializes in sexual trauma? The depression and anxiety that affect your mental health and are associated with sexual trauma are very real and can cause concerns leading to relationship issues. You will need to work on these issues in a safe environment with your sex therapist. This work with the sex therapist can lead to you feeling more positive about your body, intimacy in general, and the possibility of reaching the next level with trusted sexual partners. It will take time to get to this point in your mental health journey, but a professional sex therapist will be happy to be there for you.
It should also be noted that many people seek out sex therapy due to physical problems, not mental health problems, that are preventing intimacy. For example, sometimes arousal is prevented with no underlying physical cause. When this is the case, seeing a sex therapy specialist may be helpful.
Sex therapists will work with patients who have these issues to determine the mental health causes of the problems. Often, the reasons for arousa
