Obesity is a very serious problem in the United States. In a country that believes in fast food and super sizing, it is no wonder so many people have weight issues. Obesity can cause severe health issues, such as diabetes and heart disease. Lexi Reed understands the struggles of being overweight. Ever since childhood, she has had a weight problem. She tried multiple times to lose weight, but sadly, she always gained it back.
By the time Lexi was 25-years-old, she had weighed a whopping 392 pounds. The excess weight was causing her to be depressed, and it was affecting her quality of life. Things started to change when she met Danny, the love of her life. Danny loved Lexi for who she was, not what she looked like. She says that he was the first person who looked beyond the outside and saw her for who she was on the inside.
Lexi wasn’t the only one with a weight problem. Danny weighed 280 pounds, and they both lived a sedentary lifestyle. Their idea of a good time was eating out at all-you-can-eat buffets, and staying for hours. When they ate at home, they often ordered out. Since they were both overweight, they didn’t push one another to get healthy.
Due to their weight, there were plenty of things that Lexi and Danny couldn’t do. Rather than taking hikes or romantic walks, they spent their evenings on the couch because their weight wouldn’t allow them to do much more. Lexi was frustrated by their limitations. Danny asked Lexi to marry him, and she said yes. She was so big that she had a hard time finding a dress that would fit her. After the wedding, Lexi wanted to make a change. She wanted to be a mother one day, and she knew that it would be dangerous for her and the baby if she got pregnant right away. Lexi knew that the only way that she could have the family that she always dreamed of was to start losing weight.
It wasn’t just the desire to have a family that made Lexi decide it was time to lose weight. She also wanted to travel. Visiting the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios in Orlando was always a dream of Lexi’s. She would need to fly there, but because of her weight, she wouldn’t fit on a plane seat. Since Florida was so far from her home in Indiana, the only way to get there would be to lose weight.
On New Years Day in 2016, Lexi and Danny decided that their resolution would be to get healthy. The couple knew that they would need to make some serious changes in their lives. When Danny and Lexi’s friends heard about their goals, they decided to get involved to help. Danny and Lexi agreed to go a whole month without seating out, no soda, no alcohol, no cheat meals, and they had to work out for 30 minutes, five times a day.
Danny and Lexi were ready to make the necessary changes in their lives. They hit a roadblock when it came to going to the gym. They were both obese and embarrassed to go to the gym where fit people were working out. After looking around for a while, they found a gym that wasn’t too crowded. Lexi found a machine that she really liked to workout on, and they were on their way to becoming ore healthy.
Lexi and Danny were working out on schedule. Not eating out was tough for the couple because dinners out was their go-to date night activity. Fortunately, they thought of something better. They started going shopping together and cooking together. They tried new, healthy recipes all the time. They were really starting to enjoy themselves, and they no longer considered it a diet. Lexi says that it was a new lifestyle.
Danny and Lexi worked really hard, and they were losing weight. Lexi was losing 20 pounds a month, which was great. When the weight stopped coming off so quickly, she changed her workout regimen and started counting calories. She was very serious about losing all of her excess weight. Danny was more fortunate. He was losing weight faster than Lexi, which many people told her was common. This didn’t discourage her. It just made Lexi more motivated to work harder.
Lexi started posting her journey on an Instagram account that she called “Fat Girl Fed Up.” She and Danny had thousands of followers who were rooting or their success. In just a few years, the couple lost hundreds of pounds. Lexi and Danny can hike and run on the beach. They are also a huge source of motivation for other people who are overweight.
