Worked on this as all-digital practice in bits and pieces of my spare time. The character is one elf who wrote the Cottonwine Field Notes. I want to flesh out that universe a little more and plan to use that to practice more illustration.

She's one a them RANGERS. Very nice firearm design.

I don't mean to criticize, but her thumb does look a bit... Off.

Don't get me wrong, the rest looks absolutely stunning, my eye just caught it.

I miss details like that when I work with a piece too long. I did a quick correction. Thanks!

You're welcome ^^
(Making me blush cuz you're talking to me)

Keeping her feet light and her powder dry.

Looks great overall. Do keep up the great work.

Looks very good. I like the musket!

I'd like some information around the history of that style of rifle/musket.

I have to say that the way you do armor is always really nice Fisk.

Though that may partially be due to not giving her shoulder pads the size of a punch bowl.

Ellen Ripley after taking a second look.

I like her hair. x3
All the dirty little smudge marks are a nice touch. :3

Thanks so much! I had to work on away to make things look dirty, not just cartoon-fresh. :3

She looks cute and dangerous. I wonder if she's on some sort of mission, or if she's just surviving out in the wilderness

Excellent work as always good sir.

Any chance we'll see any the equine settlements in future installments?

Maybe in story. I have some encounters with them planned.

Sweet! Can't wait to see them in action (wink wink, nudge nudge)

Well, they're in a story I'm working on that isn't an adult comic.

Oh nice! So how is that coming along?

And where will you post it once it's finished? :)

Definitely an interesting choice of weapon design... Given the lack of obvious exposed hammer, going for a wheel-lock design?

#link
#parent

The wheel lock is on the other side.

#link
#parent

I saw that the lock was on the other side (I take it their race is also predominantly right-handed?)

Wheel lock is definitely a good choice for skirmishers, where you might not have time to check your priming well before the shot. Rifled or smoothbore?

#link

Elves over-engineer their technology. There's a little bit of hubris built into it on that respect, so it's needlessly complex and hard for other races to duplicate. That particular one is rifled.

#link
#parent

It's certainly an interesting combination of technology levels! Wheel lock in the European tradition, barrel set atop the stock like a lot of the early Chinese designs, with a butt reminiscent of an arquebus, and a rifled bore with (presumably) flare-based Minnie-ball style projectiles... Kind of a cross-section of the entire history of muzzle-loading arms! I fear for the word once they develop the paper cartridge and the percussion cap. lol

It's fantasy, so I'm kind of blending it up to set the races apart. The elves excel at optics, too, and that long thing on top of the gun is a primitive scope.

#link
#parent

Oh, ok, I was mis-identifying the components. I thought the barrel was directly atop the stock, using a flash-from-the-bottom design for shake-down priming.

So this is the author of the Cottonwine Field Notes, she sure went through alot to get her research. I wonder what you have planned for her . . .

Just checking, the chestplate makes it hard to tell, and how some people draw girly looking male elves.
Side note: She looks pretty awesome.

I know. She's not supposed to be super girly. Thanks. :3

Wow, she looks awesome, Mr. Naylor! Cannot wait to see more of her story!

Always did enjoy your work, Fisk. This storyline just keeps growing, I look forward to reading all of its facets. In addition, I can't wait to see if Haukai ever returns to us too! (forgive me, I can't recall how to spell his name.)

Awesome elf character & nice outfit!

Thanks for sharing this!

off topic but when are you going to have a comic with Audrey and Aaron - it seems like there was an opportunity to tie in a comic with the story in original life that was missed

It's not often that you see elves with guns in fantasy :) Tell me, are the elves from Cottonwine also technologically advanced? Or do they prefer to use a mix of magic and she is an exception with regards to firearms? (Maybe she has it from trade with the humans?)

#link
#parent

There is no "real" magic in the cottonwine world.

#link

Ah I see! Well, will there be more about the elves then? Or will they all end up like those colonist elves?

#link
#parent

I'm writing a story about things. I don't want to just write paragraphs about it right now in the comments section.

All those weapons but no actual survival gear (that I can see). When will my fetish for properly kitted fantasy soldiers ever be satisfied?

Were they...someone or just something?
I ask because it's apparently vogue for the wolves (pack-members, anyway) to wear defeated opponents, was wondering if Elves and such partake in similar practices.
Also, do the races in the Cottonwine universe regard each other as people, or is it just a big free for all?

Keep up the good work, man!

Me drawing one person doing it doesn't mean it's a cultural trend. Yes, they see each other as people. Of sorts.

The cover art for the Cottonwine Field Notes is finished and the project only needs a few more final touches. This project is a third party analysis of events from Red Riding Hood, initiated as a study of Cottonwine, the potion used by the Wolves. This project will bridge the former Red Riding Hood comics, with a future series about the same character called Rise of the Wolf Queen, which I will begin next year.
