No complaints on the actual anime. It's awesome. However, I seem to have issues playing the 3rd disk in the series. I play it on my Xbox and it always pauses/skips at the exact same spot every times it's played. On top of that it's the only Genshiken disk that doesn't play in my mac laptop. When I try to play I get a message saying "supported disk not available". I thought it was just the disk, so I ordered a new one and it did the same thing! I sent that one back and got a replacement and again it happened! I'm really confused and hoping anyone has any suggestions or reassurance that it's not just me and my bad luck. :/ Has anyone else had this problem?

Saki is gradually being pulled into the otaku world, whether she knows it or not. She's even beginning to find some of Genshiken's manga to be worth reading! But she can only take so much and so she orders a militaristic cleansing of all the junk in the club room. Of course, being otaku, none of the Genshiken want to get rid of ANYTHING! When she accidentally(?) starts a fire with a dropped cigarette, she gets the club banned from their meeting place. Their only hope to win back the good graces of the authorities it to show that Genshiken is an active and productive member of the school. So the group decides to enter a cosplaying contest that will be judged by their favorite anime staff. The snag in their plan is that Ohno, their resident cosplayer is sick, so that leaves Saki to dress up! And we know how far that will fly with her. This final volume also features a going to the beach episode which features a battle between Saki and Sasahara's sister for the attentions of Kohsaka. In the first episode Madarame finds himself alone with Saki, struggling to find points of conversation, and then noticing an extremely long nosehair projecting out of Saki's nose. What to do? What to do?? Don't expect any strong wrap-ups or conclusions in this final volume. If you want a continuation of the storyline I highly recommend picking up the manga version of Genshiken. The comedy in this show is dead-on, and Saki is a great foil for the club's obssessions, but in a nice twist she has begun to show a softer side, and also a loyalty she doesn't like to exhibit. It almost seems as if she has become the main character. At first it seemed as if it would belong to Sasahara, but the real revelation is Saki's evolution from otaku hater to someone that can at least respect and admire passions for anime and manga even if she can't share those passions. In a nice piece of meta-anime, an episode of Genshiken's favorite anime, Kujibiki Unbalance is included here. I wish that this show within a show would actually be expanded into an actual full blown series. The dvd also includes a long 30 minute interview with two of the Japanese voice actresses. Highly recommended. You should also seek out the Comic Party anime.

There comes a time in every girl's life when her friends try to get her to cosplay. For Saki, that's every week. But this time Ohno may finally have enough pull to get her to don the helmet once and for all. Keiko's in on the action as well, determined

Cosplay Confessions is a series we do to spotlight and get to understand the wonderful members of our cosplay community (and beyond!). This month we are talking to Level Up regular Emily’s Makeup Madness!
I love acting and becoming a character so it was right up my alley. I don’t think I knew about it until the show Heroes of Cosplay was on and I thought it was amazing what people did. I then got into Heath Ledger’s performance as the Joker because it’s amazing and decided I wanted to do that for Free Comic Book Day at Level Up.
I love to really become a character. To me cosplay isn’t just dressing up and putting on a costume, it’s like becoming a different person. I love really trying to become the character I’m dressed as.
Heath Ledger’s Joker is always fun. It freaks people out and it’s the first one I ever did. There’s also Suicide Squad Harley Quinn who’s equally fun; people love her. I enjoy turning around as the Tenth Doctor, I absolutely love Doctor Who and that specific character. Becoming Frank N Furter is always very fun and interesting. I love all of the characters I get to sort of “put on”.
I either get the whole cosplay from a shop or look for things that I can change to look like what I need. For the first run of the Joker that whole costume was entirely thrifted, I just dyed the blazer, pants, and vest. My Tenth Doctor cosplay was bought online. It’s a mix of getting things that look close to what I need and making them better. I also improve my cosplays as I do them. For instance, the first time I did the Joker looks way different to the second.
Free Comic Book Day and Halloween Comicfest is always fun. Wizard World in Philly is super great. Everyone there does such a great job with their cosplays.
Emily after winning our FCBD Costume Contest in 2013!
My absolute favorite cosplay story has to be after I helped Level Up with a commercial. It was pretty late by the time we finished and I was on my way home with my mom, who was driving. It had stormed earlier and we came across a large branch in the middle of the road. We saw a car pulled over on the shoulder and we were a little concerned so we pulled up next to him. I was closest to him so I motioned for him to roll the window down. He looked absolutely terrified and didn’t roll his window down at first. When he finally did we asked if he was okay and he said yes so we just continued on our way, thinking it was strange how he was so scared of rolling his window down for two women. Five minutes later I practically scream, “I’M STILL THE JOKER” and we burst out laughing.
Not knowing how to sew is one of them; I still have to learn. Time constraints and definitely the cost of cosplays too.
As Shia LeBouf once said, “DO IT! MAKE YOUR DREAMS COME TRUE! JUST. DO. IT! Yesterday you said tomorrow, so just DO IT!”
There are SO MANY I would love to do. I would really love to do a Castiel from Supernatural or Crowley from Good Omens with wings that move. I’ve also really been wanting to do Ultraviolet Tracer from the game Overwatch .
I somehow won the first ever cosplay contest I did at Free Comic Book Day.
