Hasegawa Chaco is a bumbling cosplayer in the Oizumi junior high cosplay club. If it weren't for Kosuke Tamiya, the boy she has a crush on, she might not continue to cosplay, as things always seem to go wrong! Lucky for her, she was bestowed with two strange beings, one of which will transform into a costume for her, making her the rising 'ace' of the cosplay club. Now she only has to overcome her bashfulness with Kosuke and win his heart too!
This series is supposed to be about cosplay. But it only ends up being a shallow ecchi series that aims at otakus who dig costume fetishes. ART SECTION: 6/10 [Fetishes as far as the eye can see.] - The general artwork isn’t anything special. Shapes and colors are of average quality. - There is an awful amount of stale images and SD scenes but all these can be excused as this is a comedy. - There is an awful amount of nude and underwear as well. Much more than in most ecchi series out there. And it is even excused, as the female cast continually changes cloths. The fact that the characters undress all the time in order to wear sensational costumes, makes them look sexy both while being undressed AND while being dressed. So, if you dig boobies and panties, get ready for a whole bunch of those. - All female characters are based on Japanese sexual phantasies. They are part of the fan service as well. We have the clutz one, the lesbian, the cute girl, the pedophile (yikes!), the little plastic miniature (WTF?), the shy one with glasses, the violent one and many, many more.- A note-worthy part in the series is the cosplay itself. All the costumes are a referance to an anime series, so it is a nice game to see how many series you can recognize. Just in case, there is a special video that reveals all the answers. - The series flirts not only with costume fetishes but with sexual fantasies as well. There are several jokes that circle around bondage, homosexuality and pedophilia. Furthermore, in some cases you are really given the impression that the real thing did happen and it is not a joke anymore. If you like this sort of thing, then you will laugh your hearts out. If not, you will be disgusted. SOUND SECTION: 6/10 [Fetish is the name of the game.] Perky voices and wacky music themes is all you will find in here. None are great and yet none sound stupid. A bit better than average. STORY SECTION: 3/10 [I want to become the best cosplayer in the world!] The story is about a team of girls who are training and participating in school cosplay events. They are supposed to love doing it and that they consider it to be a way of life. But with all the fan service going around, it never gets any deeper than having silly girls posing sexually for horny males who photograph them and possibly later on masturbate on the pictures. Seriously! The storywriters try several times to add events that are supposed to make the story sound serious but it all comes down to sleazy fan service. Nothing more. The story is only three episodes long and ends in quite a vague and dry way. Therefore all the romance and training and the emotions are just a front for sexual phantasies. Nothing more. CHARACTER SECTION: 3/10 [The cast is acting based on the manual of clichés.] As I said, the characters are just stereotypes of sexual phantasies. All their personality and behavior is nothing more that clichés such women are supposed to be making. And there is no character development either. A totally fake and flat cast. VALUE SECTION: 1/10 [How much do you want in order to undress for me?] Not rewatchable or even memorable. I prefer to watch the real thing in hardcore hentai than to be implied all the time. And the jokes are not that good the second time around. ENJOYMENT SECTION: 5/10 [-Do you feel the passion of cosplay? –Ah-huh! (looks at her boobies).] Very funny and kinda arousing half the time if you understand the whole cosplay fuss. The silly attempts at presenting a story and the blunt ending are what damage the viewing. VERDICT: 4/10 Who cares about your dramatic past? Just take your cloths off you bimbo! SUGGESTION LIST Genshiken is the best anime for learning about the true image of an otaku.
Cosplay Complex
Beginners beware!! Cosplay Cromarti High School lovers enjoy. I came across this while reviewing for Animation Runner Kuroumi. I felt positive when listening to the opening theme, feeling good about this anime, thinking that it was going to be quite the slice of life. Mistake! While watching this anime it felt like a mixture of the Genshiken Series and Charlie's Angels. With elements leaning more towards Ecchi more than Hentai. Even though I gave the Genshiken Series a quite the good rating and I love the occasional Ecchi, This anime does nothing for me. Definalty for the Cosplay lover.Characters feel very generic. Possibly stolen animation from a really bad Sega CD game. I feel that is OVA is very manufactured and was used for some promotional advertising. Selling some sort of glitter for nails or cellphones in Haraijuku. Soundtrack is not even noticable. Just average if not mundane. Story is typical, like a love epidode of Saved By The Bell but all you can think about is "What is up with the pink owl?" This anime is not for everyone. For the cosplayer at heart. Someone who is more famliar with the anime world and the Japanese mind.

This was...simply terrible. It fails even as a parody. I truly wish I had never seen it. The music was awful, the characters were flat, the animation was mediocre. Was this supposed to be a parody? If so, it wasn't even SLIGHTLY funny.

Save your brain cells and don't watch this.

Cosplay complex is a three episode OVA about... well, cosplay...

Story: Cosplay Complex, in a nutshell, is about a cosplay club in a high school. (Can't really say anymore because one little thing can spoil 1/3 of the episode ==)
The story kinda highlights a few main events in a sport anime and doesn't really follow have a logical plot but since this anime is an individual OVA, it does not have to make sense.

Art: What can I say here? This is made in 2002, so you just have to lower your expectation a bit. For that time period, the animation is not too shabby. While
...
it's not your kyo-ani style, it should satisfy your basic visual stanards.

Sound: There is not much good background music in Cosplay complex. The OP or the ED are nothing speical too. But if you happen to like Mahou Shoujo OPs (gauken alice, cardcaptor), I would say it's not bad.

Characters: This is pretty much the charm of this anime. Cosplay Complex has a good set of characters. Made simply for comedy, these characters are pretty stereotypical of a group of high school girls, an "eccentric" guy and various randies for comical relief. While the characters has no background whatsoever, one should just forget about all the troubles you have with drama-based anime and just laugh away. Also, due to the fact that this has cosplay, get your anime checklist ready to spot the parody (got quite a few every episode)

Enjoyment: All I have to say is "don't think too much about this anime, you're not going to be pondering about character development or plot twists and stuff. Just watch it with an empty mind and you'll probably enjoy this."

This is probably for more hard-core anime watchers. I don't think normal people and new anime-watchers can really grasp it's humor

I´m not one of those otaku fan boys that go up in cosplay and stuff like that, but i LOVED cosplay complex. it had a decent story, a great set of characters and was, for me, hilariously funny. it was extremely well drawn and the scenes where Chako is dressed up in samurai are was incredibly and beautifully drawn. But it could be longer, the story ends rather sharply, with a cliffhanger that doesn´t really make sense.

But it is important to watch Cosplay complex as a story rather than a parody as it fails miserably at being one.

It is an great anime, but
...
it leaves you wanting more. Reccomended.

Have a nice Chako-day.

Cosplay Complex is an OVA series that was set up to have a sequel, but never got one. And that's okay, there wasn't very much you could do with it anyway, it already seemed like they were running out of ideas during just these 3 episodes, because all of them are about a contest, that's it.

The story of this series is about a high school Cosplay club, and they add some new members every now and then. There are some rivalries, a love interest, ecchi, and lots of cosplaying.

The art is pretty good, it's definitely not the standard, especially for an OVA, I could be
...
wrong, but I don't even think it was the standard in 2002, unless anime has really come a long way in just 9 years, it's amazing.
It's not annoying and it definitely will not bore you.

The music is almost non existent, and the ending theme reminds me of something Nobuo Uematsu would have composed for a happy go lucky show, but that's not a bad thing.
The seiyuu all do a great job! I especially like whenever Delmo speaks, but that's probably because of my love for Gintama.

Character is very basic here, nothing special, but it's there.

I enjoyed this more than I expected, but for it to be something by Tatsuyuki Nagai, he has definitely come a long way in creating great shows. Sometime you can't judge a book by it's cover, or its first publish sometimes. Only time will tell when it comes to greatness.

It is overall a show that can be fun to watch if you just want some light hearted fun, and like cosplay.

Be aware that this show was set up for a sequel, so things at the end do not make sense, and they never will (Unless someone really wants to do another sequel.)

I found this anime by accident today. There are only 3 episodes of this but they are a well packaged little bundle. I found this anime to be funny, light and easy to watch. There are parts of it that are genuinely funny and will make you laugh out loud. If you are looking for something to kill about 2 hours, this is a nice way to do it.

Preliminary

(2/3 eps)

I enjoyed this anime a lot. It is pretty short, and there isn't much of a story to it but it involves humor and a bit of ecchi. It's good to watch if you're a fan of cosplay (Obviously), and if you are a fan of parodies. Overall, I gave it a 7 because the art was not the greatest, there was not much of a story (there was a bit of a story, but was not in depth), but I loved the characters. Give it a try!

Well what can I say about this, there are only three episodes and that's it nothing else & I thought was gonna be a whole series or something I thought the anime was pretty okay it had it's moments it was pretty good.

So what the fuck happened there is literally no information on this at all which is a shame the story is okay but It fit well with what was going on.

So if anyone has any updated information about it please let me know & If you haven't watched it yet but you like comedy's give this a chance it's not the best but
...
it's good TV & if you want to buy the dvd It's at-least £3.00.

How about to dive into a world of cosplay, pantsu shots & comedy? Even a little bit of love?

This is an anime of cosplay and what goes into it- yet, there's a little more to it than that. That is to say - this anime is not for everyone, after all - it a parody of the whole otaku sphere. The more you spent in the otaku world and know all of its phantoms, the funnier this will be. Otherwise the parody itself would fall flat since a lot of the comedy plots build on knowing the source material. The fairy in the show
...
reminds me so much of Puck from Berserk, and well, a girl who feel craze from the only little girl in the show...etc.

The strong suit would be the characters as they are rather well written, and on top of that, I just adore the animation style of this era. There were some scenes which i found to be really well animated and others that just are fillers, but the important part itself is the fluidity and the pacing, which I think was very good. It feelt as I took part in the club and enjoyed my time with them and their joy of cosplay.

This was surprisingly interesting and gave me a good laughs, even if I don't know of a lot of the early anime of 2004 which is used as cosplay reference. But that didn't stop me from enjoying it nor am I that interesting in cosplay. It's an short anime and ends abruptly, makes me wonder if this was supposed to be a 12 ep show? It saddens me a bit, since i would love to watch all of it.

8/10
