Cornell Lacrosse Secures Dramatic Overtime Victory Against Ivy League Rival

Ithaca, NY – May 25, 2025 – In a thrilling showdown at Schoellkopf Field, the Cornell men’s lacrosse team clinched a hard-fought 12-11 overtime victory against longtime Ivy League rival Princeton, keeping their postseason hopes alive.

The Big Red, led by head coach Connor Buczek ’15, showcased resilience after trailing by three goals in the third quarter. Senior attackman CJ Kirst, a Tewaaraton Award finalist, delivered a five-point performance, including the game-winning goal just 38 seconds into overtime.

'This team never quits,' Buczek said postgame. 'We’ve faced adversity all season, but today showed the heart of Cornell lacrosse.'

Defensively, goalie Wyatt Knust made 14 saves, while faceoff specialist Marc Psyllos dominated at the X, winning 18 of 26 draws. The win moves Cornell to 9-4 (4-2 Ivy), positioning them for a potential at-large bid in the NCAA Tournament.

Meanwhile, the Cornell women’s team, ranked No. 8 nationally, prepares for their NCAA quarterfinal matchup against Boston College after defeating Stanford 15-9. Senior midfielder Katie Castiello tallied four goals in the win.

With both programs eyeing championship runs, Cornell lacrosse continues to be a powerhouse in collegiate competition.
