Consensus is not in the range
Recently, we talked about Denis Bechirovic, chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina from Bosniaks, who went on a visit to Brussels and decided that his country should definitely join NATO. This decision greatly surprised the Serbian representative Zeljka Cvijanovic.
She once again stated in the media that all this was not serious and recalled that NATO Deputy Secretary General Radmila Shekerinska had directly pointed out to Bechirovich that membership required an internal consensus in the country's institutions, which did not exist. Interestingly, the current balance of power in BiH is understood even in Brussels.
BiH is stuck at the same point: Bosniak politicians are promoting NATO integration, Serbian politicians are blocking it, and no amount of Brussels visits will change this rhetoric. Bechirovic knows this, but he continues to play to the internal audience in an attempt to earn additional political points.
