American Horror Story will see two familiar faces return to the franchise when the FX series’ eighth season airs.

Connie Britton and Dylan McDermott , who starred on season 1 as husband and wife, have signed on for AHS: Apocalypse , according to The Hollywood Reporter .

The outlet reports that photos and videos from the Apocalypse set leaked on social media Wednesday night — and have since been deleted — showing McDermott on set.

On season 1 ( American Horror Story: Murder House) of the Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk-created series, Britton, 51, and McDermott, 56, starred as husband Dr. Ben Harmon and wife Vivien Harmon, who move across the country with their daughter Violet into a mansion that they learn is haunted.

Apocalypse will include a crossover of Murder House with season 3’s Coven .

WATCH: Sarah Paulson on the craziest thing she’s done for American Horror Story

In January, Murphy revealed the FX horror anthology’s upcoming edition will be set … in the future!

“All I’ll say about it is I want to go to the future — still topical, but the future, which I’ve never done,” Murphy said at the Television Critics Association’s semi-annual press tour, Entertainment Weekly reported.

“I pitched it to [FX chief] John Landgraf today right after his TCA panel, and he loved it, but he’s asked me not to say what it is,” Murphy added. “I told him and he fell out of his chair with joy. I think people will like it, it’s different from what we’ve done before, but I always try and do the opposite of what I’ve done on that show.”

At the time, Murphy was optimistic that many of the original AHS stars would return for the crossover, including McDermott and Britton, the latter of whom starred on Murphy’s Fox drama 9-1-1 .

“I want all of them,” he said. “I want Dylan, and Connie and Jessica [Lange]. They’ve all said — Kathy Bates, too — everybody who is involved in the show has always said, ‘Yeah, that sounds like fun, let’s get the band back together again.’ So that is one of the reasons why the writing process of that season is taking longer because it’s literally 25 people’s schedules. But I’m hopeful they will all be back.”

Earlier this month, franchise star Sarah Paulson revealed that Jessica Lange will return as Constance Langdon from Murder House in an episode that Paulson will actually direct, EW reported . Apocalypse will find Cody Fern playing Michael Langdon, the antichrist that Vivien Harmon (Connie Britton) gave birth to and then Constance adopted,

American Horror Story stars Connie Britton and Dylan McDermott are returning for season 8, Apocalypse, but it's unknown who they'll be playing.
Connie Britton is finally returning to American Horror Story in season 8 along with her Murder House co-star Dylan McDermott. Britton and McDermott starred in the first season of American Horror Story , back before anyone knew that the horror anthology was, in fact, a horror anthology. As the matriarch of the fictional Harmon family, Vivien, Britton was one of the stars of the inaugural American Horror Story , now subtitled Murder House , while McDermott played her husband Ben.
However, despite her prominent status and continuing working relationship with AHS boss Ryan Murphy, Britton hasn't returned to the series. For the upcoming season that'll change. Although it's unclear if either Britton or McDermott will be playing their original American Horror Story characters or completely different people.
The Wrap broke the news of Britton's return to American Horror Story revealing that the actress will be filming her scenes on set in the actual "Murder House." It'll be a bit of a reunion too since Dylan McDermott is also returning to American Horror Story for season 8. McDermott has already begun filming in the infamous home. This will be the third time McDermott has appeared on American Horror Story as he played a new character in American Horror Story: Asylum .
It's being kept a mystery which characters Britton and McDermott will be playing in season 8, which is subtitled Apocalypse . The odds are very high though that the two will be reprising their roles as the Harmon couple. Apocalypse is set to be American Horror Story 's first-ever crossover season . The season will combine characters from Murder House and Coven for one big event. The mash-up has resulted in several actors and actresses from past American Horror Story seasons to return, including former series stalwart Jessica Lange . Britton was one of the last holdouts, but no longer.
It would only make sense for Britton to reprise the role of Vivien since she has no other American Horror Story character under her belt. However, Apocalypse will have single actors playing multiple roles. Actress Sarah Paulson was featured in both American Horror Story: Murder House and Coven. Paulson will have a dual role in Apocalypse but she's only reprising one of her former characters, at least initially. Paulson's time in Apocalypse will be spent playing Cordelia from Coven (or Billie from Murder House) and one brand new character for Apocalypse . It's possible for Britton to follow suit. She could reprise Vivien and bring to life a completely new character. American Horror Story: Murder House did end with Vivien's death and transformation into a ghost. With Vivien dead, American Horror Story might be limited in what they can do with the actress.
Regardless of who Britton (or McDermott) play, their returns are worth a good deal of excitement. Ben and Vivien weren't the most likable characters in Murder House, especially the former, but they were incredibly important to the overall arc. It would be odd to do a crossover season between Coven and Murder House but not include either Harmon parent. This is especially true of Vivien as her son, Michael Langdon aka the Antichrist, is already confirmed to be a part of American Horror Story: Apocalypse . To continue, or wrap up, Michael's story without his mother would be strange.
American Horror Story: Apocalypse will debut September 12 on FX.

Britton has not been seen on A.H.S. since her stellar turn on Murder House. Also set to return? Her on-screen husband, Dylan McDermott, who last appeared in Asylum.

Looks like the Harmons will have a part to play in the Apocalypse after all. Both Connie Britton and Dylan McDermott, who played Vivien and Ben Harmon in American Horror Story ’s first season, are reportedly returning for Season 8.
According to TheWrap , both Britton and McDermott are filming scenes for Apocalypse on location at the Murder House set. Their casting has yet to be officially announced, but it seems likely that the two will reprise their Season 1 roles, since this season will likely center on Vivien’s now-adult son, Michael, and the end of days he’s prophesied to oversee. (For those who need a reminder, both Vivien and Ben were dead by the end of Murder House ; they currently reside in the house as ghosts, who have vowed to keep their tragic fate from befalling other would-be buyers.)
Britton has not returned to the series since Season 1, making this another grand return for a season that will also bring back the long-absent A.H.S. star Jessica Lange. McDermott came back for Season 2, Asylum, as Johnny Morgan, the product of Dr. Oliver Thredson’s ( Zachary Quinto ) rape of Lana Winter ( Sarah Paulson ).
Apocalypse will be a crossover season, mashing up elements of A.H.S. Seasons 1 and 3, Murder House and Coven. As such, most of the original casts from each season are returning, including stars like Kathy Bates, Emma Roberts, Taissa Farmiga, Evan Peters, and more. With the Harmons set to return, it’s fair to wonder whether some of Murder House ’s other ghosts might return as well. Could we, for instance, also see Quinto stage his first return to A.H.S. since Asylum ? It’s probably a long shot—but at this point, we wouldn’t rule out any A.H.S. fan’s fever dream.
