Common RustTweaker 2.0.x issues

1. I can't register / log in / loading takes too long / settings won't apply / the application crashes

Symptoms:

• Unable to register or log in;
• Very long loading times;
• Settings are not being applied;
• The application crashes.

Cause:

High load on RustTweaker servers.

Solution:

This is a temporary consequence of the increased server load.

Please wait until the server load decreases.

As soon as the situation stabilizes, an update will be posted in our Telegram channel.

2. Does the program contain a virus?

Answer:

RustTweaker does not contain any viruses.

If your antivirus detects the program, please also see the section below regarding quarantine and adding RustTweaker to exceptions (section 7.2).

3. RustTweaker version 1.3.2 is being installed/downloaded — what should I do?

Cause:

You are downloading the demo version of the application.

Solution:

The full version of RustTweaker is available in your personal account:

• Log in to your account on the website.
• Click "Download Application" to download the latest full version.

4. Error: "Error when try get link for download!"

Solution:

• If you are outside Russia, try enabling a VPN.
• If you are inside Russia, make sure all restrictions, proxies, and VPNs are completely disabled.
• If that doesn't help, try enabling a VPN and attempt the download again.
• Wait for server stability to improve; in some cases, a VPN may not help.

5. I use a custom version of Windows / have applied tweaks / removed components — will RustTweaker work?

Answer:

RustTweaker is designed for Windows 10 and Windows 11.

It is officially compatible with the licensed version of Rust.

We cannot guarantee proper functionality on custom Windows builds, stripped-down systems, or third-party tweaked distributions.

If you are using a modified version of Windows, some tweaks may fail to apply or may cause errors. In such cases, apply tweaks one at a time and skip any problematic ones.

6. Optimization mode error: "Failed to apply changes. Please contact support."

Solution:

Try applying tweaks individually:

1. Open RustTweaker.
2. Go to the Optimization section.
3. Apply each tweak one by one and monitor which one triggers the error.

The problematic tweak can be skipped; all other tweaks should continue working normally.

7. Error: "Unable to execute file: file path CreateProcess failed; code 2. The system cannot find the file specified."

This error can occur in two situations.

Option 1: Outdated shortcut

Symptom:

The desktop shortcut is trying to launch the application from an old (deleted or moved) folder.

Solution:

1. Open File Explorer and navigate to:
2. C:\Program Files (x86)\RustTweaker\Release
3. Locate RustTweaker.exe.
4. Launch it directly.
5. Create a new shortcut:
6. Right-click RustTweaker.exe → Create Shortcut.
7. Move the shortcut to your desktop and use it to launch the program.

Option 2: Antivirus quarantined or deleted RustTweaker

Symptom:

RustTweaker.exe disappears and the application no longer launches.

Solution:

1. Open Virus & Threat Protection Settings in Windows.
2. Click Manage Settings.
3. Temporarily disable Real-Time Protection.
4. Open Protection History.
5. Find the notification stating that RustTweaker.exe was quarantined.
6. Click Actions → Allow.
7. Restore the file if necessary and launch RustTweaker again.

8. I can't log into the application: nothing happens when I click the login button

Cause:

You are using an outdated version of RustTweaker that no longer supports authorization.

Solution:

1. Navigate to the folder containing RustTweaker.exe.
2. Locate unins.exe (the uninstaller).
3. Run it and completely remove the application.
4. Visit the RustTweaker website and download the latest installer.exe.
5. Reinstall the application using the new installer.

Authorization should work properly after reinstallation.

9. The application doesn't launch or work if you live outside Russia

Cause:

We are currently testing and improving the access system for users outside Russia.

Solution:

Access from outside Russia may currently be unstable.

We plan to complete testing and provide stable access within the next week.

If you are located abroad, temporarily use a VPN. After the updates, everything should work without additional actions on your part.

10. Error: "Get an app to open this 'ms-gamingoverlay' link"

Cause:

This error is related to the Windows Game Bar component.

One of the optimization tweaks disables Game Bar, but Windows may still attempt to access ms-gamingoverlay.

Solution:

Disable the corresponding optimization option in RustTweaker:

• Uncheck "Disable Game Bar".

The ms-gamingoverlay error should disappear.

11. The benchmark freezes at the main menu and nothing happens

Symptom:

The benchmark launches the game, but it gets stuck at the main menu and the test never starts.

Solution:

Change your screen resolution to 1920×1080 before launching the benchmark.

1. Right-click on the desktop → Display Settings.
2. Find Display Resolution.
3. Set it to 1920 × 1080 (Recommended).
4. Save the changes and launch the benchmark again through RustTweaker.

12. I can't complete the second performance test

Solution:

Before starting the second test:

1. Launch the game.
2. Open the console (default key: F1).
3. Enter the command:

god 1

1. Press Enter.

13. Error: "Unable to execute file file path CreateProcess: code 740. The requested operation requires elevation."

Solution:

Try running the application as Administrator.

14. Error: "A problem occurred during installation. Error code: 0x80040c01"

Solution:

If the latest version is already installed, you may see error 0x80040c01 (the component is already installed).

This error can be safely ignored.

15. My Steam account is linked to an account with an incorrect email address

Symptom:

When signing in through Steam, your account is linked to a RustTweaker profile with an incorrect email address (typo, nonexistent email, etc.).

Solution:

Contact RustTweaker Support and provide:

1. The incorrect email address used during registration.
2. The new email address already registered on RustTweaker.com (if applicable).

Support will help relink the account to the correct email address.

16. I don't receive the email verification code when registering an account

Symptom:

You are trying to register an account, but the verification code email never arrives.

Solution:

This issue is currently on the server side.

Please wait until the email delivery system is stabilized.

Try registering again later once email delivery has been restored.

RustTweaker Support cannot manually create accounts or issue verification codes, so contacting support will not help in this situation.
