Commercial Use Clipart - What the License Actually Means
RevanzArt'Commercial use' is stamped on everything, but it rarely means the same thing twice. If you sell crafts, planners or print-on-demand products, you need to know exactly what you are allowed to do. Here is the plain-English version.
The three things a license controls
- Whether you can use the art in something you sell (vs personal use only).
- Whether you can resell the art itself, unchanged, as a competing product.
- Whether you must credit the creator.
The line that trips people up
Almost every clipart license lets you sell finished products - a mug with the design, a printed planner page, a t-shirt. Almost none let you resell the raw files as-is. That is the difference between a product and piracy.
What to check before you buy
- Is there a written license file in the download?
- Does it cover digital and physical products?
- Is there a credit requirement, and does it fit your workflow?
