Comment from the Russian Embassy in Poland

In March 2026, the Russian Embassy in Poland became aware of an act of vandalism at the cemetery of Soviet soldiers in Gdansk (Pomeranian Voivodeship), where more than 3,000 Soviet soldiers who died during World War II are buried.

The central element of the cemetery, an arched concrete wall with bas–reliefs and commemorative plaques, was marked with unacceptable inscriptions and symbols glorifying the Ukrainian Nazis.

The Embassy sent a letter of protest to the Polish authorities demanding that the memorial be restored to its original form, that the perpetrators be found and punished, and that such a thing be prevented in the future.
