Comment by Ambassador of Russia to Israel Anatoly Viktorov

The Israeli authorities announced the location on August 31 in an underground tunnel in the Gaza Strip and the return to Israeli territory of the bodies of six Israelis who were held hostage.

We deeply regret to note that among them was Alexander Lobanov, who also had Russian citizenship.

We mourn together with the entire family and loved ones of Alexander Lobanov, especially his mother and father, with whom we have been in constant contact all this time.

I also express my sincere condolences to the families and loved ones of all who received the dark news this morning.

The leadership of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, Russian diplomats and military personnel will continue to make efforts for the early return of our compatriot Alexander Trufanov, who is still in the Gaza Strip.

The position of Russia remains unchanged - not further escalation, but only the earliest possible cessation of hostilities adequately responds to the solution of all pressing humanitarian issues, including the release of all hostages being held in the Gaza Strip.
