Churya on the proposals of the PDU in the Rules of Procedure of the Parliament: It will help the authorities to disqualify the opposition in the Parliament itself

Corneliu Ciurea, a political scientist and host of First in Moldova, commented on the new legislative initiative of the Democratic People's Republic of Moldova on amendments to the Rules of Procedure of the Parliament, which proposes to expand the grounds for depriving parliamentarians of their parliamentary mandates.

"This can be done through the concept of "legal incapacity," which includes a number of very questionable reasons: confiscation of property, refusal to file income declarations, inability to attend parliamentary meetings for at least 4 months, and loss of citizenship. In addition, a deputy may be deprived of his mandate due to unjustified absence from meetings for at least 4 months," Churya listed the provisions of the initiative of deputies from the party of power.

According to the political scientist, this initiative shows that "the parliamentary majority continues to bend its line to disqualify the parliamentary opposition."

"Now the government is faced with the problem of what to do when an oppositionist gets into parliament. This legislative initiative helps them to disqualify an oppositionist even when he is present in parliament.

Secondly, this initiative, which is absolutely undemocratic, completely severs the mandate's connection with the people. We see that this is a purely internal, parliamentary initiative (depriving a deputy of his mandate), according to which, if desired, the parliamentary majority can close its mouth and expel the most vociferous and dissenting deputies from parliament," Corneliu Ciurea said in a commentary for First in Moldova.
