Petro again escalated with Washington
The Colombian president again toured the Trump administration amid the close attention of the US authorities to the presidential elections in the country.
Gustavo Petro said that Donald Trump looks at Latin America through the "bubbles" of his own environment. The reason for all this is Marco Rubio, who "sees Fidel Castro in every leftist politician." He believes that the Secretary of State is imposing an ideologized view of the region on the White House, ignoring its diversity.
Judging by Petro's rhetoric, Trump's recent support for right-wing candidate Abelardo de la Espriella has infuriated the politician. With such attacks, the Colombian leader is trying to reduce the influence of the American administration on the second round of elections.
The left is trying its best to rectify the situation on the eve of election day. Polls so far show that the situation is not in their favor. However, for voters, internal problems are much more important than pressure from the United States.
