OddsShark College Football Odds: NCAAF Betting Lines and Spreads
When it comes to betting college football, moneylines are popular with underdog bettors, and futures (odds to win the BCS national championship) and betting the halves have added more variety and profit potential for bettors.
Throw fantasy-style props wagers and live NCAA betting (where you can wager on the next play and on NCAAF odds that change all game long) into the mix and the importance of understanding how college football odds operate is at an all-time high. Check out the NCAA football lines and bookmark the page for more updates and college football lines enhancements in the coming weeks and months.
There’s a saying in football betting that “you win it on Saturday and give it back on Sunday.” It suggests that beating the Saturday NCAA football point spread is easy, while beating the NFL spread on Sundays is far more challenging. Regardless, NCAA point spreads, also known as the line or spread, is many bettors’ favorite way to wager on football each fall.
If bettors believe that Alabama is two touchdowns better than Auburn, they may bet the Crimson Tide as 14-point favorites. For college football point spreads, the negative value (-14) indicates the favorite and the positive value (+14) indicates the underdog. The favorite will need to win by 15 points or more to cover the spread and the underdog team can lose by up to 13 points and still cover the spread.
There will be a “moneyline value” associated with college football spreads, for example, -14 (-115). This is known as the vig or juice, and is the commission you’ll pay to the sportsbook to handle the bet. You’ll need to risk $115 to win $100 if you bet the favorite. If you bet the underdog at +14 (+105), this means you can risk $100 to win $105 in profit if your dog team covers the NCAAF spread.
Common in baseball and hockey betting in days gone by, moneylines have become much more popular in college football in recent years as handicappers have become smarter and believe in their ability to pick upsets. There is no spread to worry about, so your college football team simply needs to win the game. As with NCAA spreads, a negative value means a favorite (-150) and a positive value indicates an underdog (+130).
For example, if you bet on the favorite at -180, you’d risk $180 to win $100. If you bet on the +160 underdog, you’d risk $100 and win $160 if the underdog wins straight up. Remember the team must win the game SU in order to earn a moneyline victory for your bankroll.
Also known as college football OVER/UNDER betting, these are wagers on the total points scored by both teams combined. If the total is 60.5, you need 60 points or less to win an UNDER bet (example: 40-17 final = 57 points which is UNDER 60.5) and 61 points or more to win OVER (example: a 40-27 final = 67 points which is OVER 60.5).
NCAA football totals are not available on every game and they are sometimes posted later in the week than NFL totals. Keep tabs on the NCAA football odds menu to see which books post these NCAA football betting lines first.
Who will win the College Football Playoff next year? You can bet on your favorite college football program at any point during the year and these types of predictions on the outcome of a future event are known as NCAA football futures.
If a team is dominant and ranked in the top five, it may have short CFP odds. A slumping team stuck with a tough schedule, paired with injuries galore, may have long-shot odds. If the No. 1-ranked team is +280 to win the title, it means a $100 stake returns a $280 profit if that team wins it all.
However, that slumping 0-5 team may be +2500 and would pay a huge $2,500 profit as a long shot on a $100 wager. There are other futures available, including odds to win the SEC, Heisman Trophy odds and more.
Negative odds for a bet indicate the favorite so more times than not, the favorite will win. However, the negative odds have a lower payout than an underdog with plus odds so you would have to win more times to be profitable. For example, a -200 betting line would have a payout of 1/2 your original wager, you bet $10 on -200 you profit $5.
Many times the opening betting odds are drastically changed at the time of the event for various different reasons. Injuries are a key factor but the college football odds mostly change because of the betting market. The more money that comes in on one side the odds tend to follow suit so if the public bets on a favorite they tend to become more of a favorite.
The plus symbol for betting odds indicates an underdog and that the number following "+" is what you're gaining based on a $100 wager. For example, a +200 underdog means that if you bet $100 and that underdog wins you get your original $100 back plus an additional $200.

College football officially started this past weekend, but the real action begins Thursday night when the first Week 1 games featuring top 25 ranked teams are played.
There are a bunch of awesome matchups on tap, including several featuring two ranked teams.
The best game is arguably No. 5 Notre Dame traveling to Columbus to play Heisman Trophy hopeful CJ Stroud and No. 2 Ohio State. We also have a Pac-12 vs. SEC showdown when No. 11 Oregon plays the defending champion and No. 3 ranked Georgia at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. Oregon beat No. 3 Ohio State on the road in Week 2 last season, so these Ducks players should have plenty of confidence they can pull off another upset.
North Carolina State (-11 at East Carolina) and Utah (-3 at Florida) are the only ranked teams listed as road favorites this week (excluding neutral site games). Homefield advantage is often a significant factor early in the season.
Here are the opening betting lines, via PointsBet , for the Week 1 games involving teams in the AP Top 25 poll.
West Virginia at No. 17 Pittsburgh (-7.5)
Central Michigan at No. 12 Oklahoma State (-20.5)
VMI at No. 22 Wake Forest (no line yet)
Western Michigan at No. 15 Michigan State (-22)
Colorado State at No. 8 Michigan (-27.5)
No. 11 Oregon at No. 3 Georgia (-17.5)
No. 23 Cincinnati at No. 19 Arkansas (-6)
No. 5 Notre Dame at No. 2 Ohio State (-17.5)
Miami (OH) at No. 20 Kentucky (-17)
Albany at No. 10 Baylor (no line yet)
Illinois State at No. 18 Wisconsin (no line yet)
Bethune-Cookman at No. 16 Miami (no line yet)
No. 13 NC State (-11) at East Carolina
No. 4 Clemson (-22) at Georgia Tech
