Nicosia the only inland city in Cyprus. The administrative and cultural centre has expanded enormously to overspill its oldtown walls. It has snazzy new buildings and has become a slick smart European city whilst retaining its Cypriot culture. Its the only divided city in the world since the Turkish invasion in the mid seventies. The Shacolas Tower is a 'must' visit giving breathtaking panoramic views of the city. You can clearly see the huge Turkish flag imprinted on the slopes of the mountains to the north. The photographs show Eleftheria Square with its dramatic design of crossways and shaped structures creating steps and walkways underneath. Shacolas tower. Немного другого непривычного Кипра, довелось как-то съездить в Никосию, просто посмотреть. Специально поднялась на Shacolas Tower, чтобы посмотреть на город. Столица Кипра - город древний с богатой историей. Очень много сооружений, относящихся к разным эпохам. Центральная часть города, старый город, окружена крепостными стенами, возведенными венецианцами. Сейчас Никосия разделена на двое после турецкого вторжения года. На фото собор Святой Софии построен в 14 веке в готическом стиле. В 16 веке после захвата Кипра Османской империей был превращен в главную мечеть Кипра и переименован в мечеть Селимие, к нему были пристроены 2 минарета.
