CADC313 (cassette) and CAD313CD (CD) included tracks from the EP Sunburst and Snowblind .
Head Over Heels peaked at #51 on the UK album chart, and was 4AD’s first #1 record on the UK independent chart.
The sleeve design was inspired by a scene from the 1979 Andrei Tarkovsky film Stalker .
Lyrics from “When Mama Was Moth,” “Glass Candle Grenades,” “The Tinderbox (of a heart),” and “My Love Paramour” are printed on the inner sleeve of the vinyl release.
The album title takes its name from a lyric in the song “It’s All But An Ark Lark” from the EP Lullabies , released the previous year.
The track “Musette and Drums” appears on the 1985 compilation The Pink Opaque .
Remastered versions of “Sugar Hiccup” and “My Love Paramour” appear on the 2000 compilation Stars and Topsoil .
“Sugar Hiccup,” “My Love Paramour,” and “Musette and Drums” have appeared in live performances.
An instrumental track, “My Hue and Cry,” was recorded during this period but never released until a Radio Sessions version appeared in 1999 on the BBC Sessions , though a version of it was performed live during the mid-1980s.
Head Over Heels was digitally remastered and re-released, with original artwork, by 4AD in 2003.
“Musette and Drums” was included on the two-disc compilation that accompanied the 2013 book, Facing the Other Way: The Story of 4AD , by Martin Aston.

“We had to give up the flat because we couldn’t afford to travel and pay the rent. So we did that, did the tour, and then of course we had no home. So we thought, ‘Where the fuck are we gonna go?’ Foolishly, John Wilde and Scott Roger, who’d come to a lot of the dates on the tour, had said, well, if you really need somewhere to stay, just come along at any old time and we’ll put you up and all that stuff. But I think they meant a weekend, and it turned out to be about a year. We made Head Over Heels while we lived there—we went back to Grangemouth to record it, made it up as we went along in the studio—but we stayed there while it was going on. There was a lot going on in that house. It was a really good atmosphere, really productive.” Elizabeth Fraser

This is an addictive record. I got it a few weeks ago and can't stop listening to it. It's a very dark album, and it reminds me of Sioxusie and the Banshees, my favorite band. Still, the Cocteau's have their own trademark sound. The way Liz belts out the lyrics, the guitars, and the bass (which is very important in this record - I usually could care less for it). It's a very intense album, and wouldn't be a bad place to start for newcomers. If you like the Cocteau's this album is a must.

Great music, if you like subliminal music, this is it...much recommended

Product as described ! Fast shipping. Im so Glad to do business with you. Congrats !!!

This is one of the worst vinyl reissues I've ever heard. A heavy hand on the remastering has made the bottom end muddy, removed the icy sheen from the highs, and destroyed all the mystery of the Cocteaus' sound. Stay away. Stay far away. 4AD should be ashamed of themselves for this.

this is a waste of time if you have the terrible robin guthrie remasters that everyone hates because it’s the same exact thing. 4ad should be ashamed for repackaging that garbage. the album itself is impeccable.

'Head over Heels' is the most consistent of the earlier Cocteau albums. The import version that includes the 'Sunburst and Snowblind' ep makes sense since they were both recorded during the same sessions. 'Sugar Hiccup' is reprised on the ep, but the three other tracks are the real reason to purchase it. To this day, it amazes me that 'From the Flagstones' and 'Hitherto' weren't included on the original album since they are far more melodic than some of that album's tracks. You can also find both tracks on the import album/compilation 'The Pink Opaque'.(See my review of that album) The final track, 'Because of Whirl Jack' is also a keeper. It is more akin to the almost punkish sounds and tempos of the tracks on their debut, 'Garlands', only again, far more melodic. 'Sunburst and Snowblind' can also be purchased as a part of the limited edition box set that contains all of their ep's. (Essential if you are a diehard) But released in this form as companions, 'Head over Heels/Sunburst and Snowblind' is a "treasure". Similar Artists: Siouxsie and the Banshees, Area, Dead Can Dance.

Excellent album. Perfectly made in LP. Thanks

Still Shines Bright in the Murky Depths...

Just received my remastered vinyl copy of Head Over Heels LP, and listening to it right now out of my speaker system. Yes, it is brighter, edgier, and harder sounding than the original versions on vinyl, but I do rather like the increased dimension, definition, and air. Somehow the added air and lightness is apt for the ethereal quality of their songs and the brightness seems to highlight Elizabeth Fraser's siren-like voice, where it was dulled by the former murkiness. But I certainly wouldn't want to listen to the vinyl on an overly bright system or Ety's...it would probably be like fingernails on the chalkboard. Sadly the songs from Heaven or Las Vegas (my favorite Cocteau Twins album) do not benefit all that much from the remastering, the original master tape must not have been very well recorded.

Vinyl LP pressing. Head over Heels is the second studio album by influential Scottish rock band Cocteau Twins. The album was released in October 1983 by 4AD, and was their first album as a duo of Elizabeth Fraser and Robin Guthrie. It featured the band's signature sound of Guthrie's lush guitars under Fraser's mostly wordless vocals and is considered an archetype of early ethereal wave music.
