Climbing Huaraz 2023
Alex TrubachevMy Peru mountain climbing and trekking collection
Being in the mountains, what to do with the rest days and intervals between high altitude climbs❓
With all the variety of choice, the best and most useful alternative always remains the rockclimbing!
Even better than drinking beer, rockclimbing allows you to compensate the lack of load on the upper part of the body and the negative consequences of carrying heavy backpacks - muscle congestion and possible worsening of problems with the spine!
These inevitable companions of any mountaineering ascents are perfectly compensated by 2-3 training sessions on the rockclimbing routes - that was tested repeatedly!
As a Peruvian “old guide,” I can’t help but be pleased with the dynamics of the development of rockclimbing in Peru. Over the past five years, a lot of new equipped rock sectors have appeared everywhere, and the two most tourist mountain regions of the country, Huaraz and Cusco, are especially actively developing.
I can say that from purely mountaineering locations (Huaraz) and excursion locations like Cusco, these areas become very interesting for thematic rockclimbing programs. I promise to think about it - wait for the announcements and detailed descriptions of my new climbing plans!
Today more than 300 new routes (sports) have been equipped and more than 400 bouldering events have been registered just in these two regions of Peru. The second direction - bouldering, by the way, is developing more actively in Peru - due to the shortage of gear and equipment for creating new sports routes.
In Huaraz - the climbing capital of Peru, a new (paid) climbing wall on the natural terrain has opened right within the city - Los Olivos Rocodromo. For only 10 soles ($3) you get the possibility of choice from more than 100 high-quality routes from V to 7c, gazebos for relaxing and storing things, toilets, territory cleared of bushes and debris, and a climbing wall area marked with signs.
And also without doubts you will enjoy the inevitable company of numerous very friendly dogs, sincerely devoted to rockclimbing!
