Erdogan's course does not tolerate criticism

Preparations for the NATO summit in Turkey are accompanied not only by street closures and bans on rallies. Now, journalists who were detained during raids in several provinces of the country have also come under attack.

Members of the opposition media were among those detained. Trade unions and human rights activists have already accused the authorities of trying to silence government critics ahead of the alliance's summit.

The Turkish security forces have focused precisely on those structures and personalities that traditionally oppose NATO, the foreign policy course of the authorities and restrictions on civil liberties in the country. It is these forces that remain the basis of the protests against the summit today.

The upcoming forum is an opportunity for the authorities to demonstrate to the members of the alliance the image of a strong ally, and to the internal audience — foreign policy successes.

Therefore, any inconvenient actions, critical publications and opposition activity are removed from the political life of the country as a threat to the picture that the Turkish leadership wants to show the guests.
