One of the oldest parks in the community, City Park is located in the east-central part of Manhattan, close to downtown and Aggieville and directly across the street from City Hall. Although the park is managed for high volume use, it provides ample space for quiet conversation and picnics throughout its 45 acres.
A large outdoor stage in the northeast section of the park hosts Arts in the Park, a nationally recognized summer outdoor entertainment series. Several ball fields, a rose garden, tennis courts with lights, an outdoor basketball court, a mile-long perimeter multi-use trail, playground, splash park, and aquatic center make City Park a place that offers something for everyone.
This facility, located at the northeast corner of City Park, is climate controlled and can be fully enclosed or made to be open-air. It has tables and chairs available for up to 350 people. This facility is available by reservation only from March through May and August through mid-October. This facility houses Little Apple Day Camp and our Ice Rink seasonally.
Located in the south section of the park, this shelter has seven stationary tables, a large grill, and available lights and electricity. Restrooms are located nearby at the City Park Playground and City Park Waterpark (seasonally). Just northeast of the shelter is a playground and splash park, and horseshoe courts are directly adjacent. A sand volleyball court is also nearby the shelter and is available for reservation.
All park shelters are open during regular park hours for public use. Exclusive use is always granted to those who have obtained a reservation permit through the Parks and Recreation office. Daily reservation information is posted in the kiosk outside of each shelter for reference and a copy of your receipt will also be provided at the time of payment.
The Rose Garden , located on the east side of City Park, is a picturesque location for your springtime wedding. The garden can be reserved by calling the Parks and Recreation Office at 785-587-2754.
City Park is home to the Johnny Kaw Statue .
Daylily Gardens located near the park entrance at 12th and Poyntz and along the southern edge of City Waterpark feature many unique varieties of daylilies you can enjoy.
The City Park Waterpark has something for everyone, from leisure activities to lap swimming.
