City of Broken Dreamers may contain content you must be 18+ to view.
A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, and Linux
This release contains the first four chapters of the game. These chapters are massive by visual novel standards typically an hour to an hour and a half for each chapter, so expect about 4 to 5 hours worth of content on this release.
Chapters 5 and 6 have been released on patreon . The patreon also has rewards such as custom renders and voting polls for extra content, and my previous game Depraved Awakening which is fully complete and also available on steam .
You play as a Ghost, a bounty hunter for hire. Ghosts often have the backing of the rich and powerful and are thus almost immune to the law. Among Ghosts, you are considered one of the best, but behind that lies a man running from his troubled past. Your next mark is a young girl with a hidden, and troubling secret. And when you face her, you’ll face your demons as well. You will meet a large cast of characters, both allies and enemies. How you interact with them will be up to you. Do you keep it professional? Ditch them? Or take them up on a night of hot, steamy, -- well, you get the point.
Are you looking for a visual novel with a bit more edge? Where story, and characters come first? A world with a thick backstory? This will all play out in a “City of Broken Dreamers”. The game is dark, it is fun, it is sexy, but most importantly it is engaging. Every choice you make will have an impact but there is no wrong choice. Only what you decide. Create your own path in the dark streets of Los Angeles.
Do note that this is an adult game so expect plenty of very lewd content. It can be skipped or passed by and you can still have an enjoyable experience but please be aware of that before buying.

It's an okay game with potential for being great. Just not seen enough of the story in 4 chapters. I need another 1-3 chapters before I pay my normal $20+ for great games!
This is a teaser, a bit like how some stores will have a little sample to get you to buy the product. The completed first book is on Steam and it's 7 chapters. I'm not a Patreon person, but I think chapters 8-11 are available on Patreon. As for when the completed 2nd book will be released my guess would be when chapter 14 is done sometime between today and the 2nd coming. As far as a review, I really like the game. The writing and animation are both very good. I bought it on Steam and I don't regret it at all which is a lot more than I can say for some of the schlock being made in the genre.
I don't think this will be updated until the next chapter is finished. No steam release either until the next chapter is done.
When is this story going to be finished. It's obviously so close to completion.... It would be terrible to have to wait forever for it!
Cannot launch the 0.4.2 pc version on linux. I want to test the demo version first and then buy the game over patreon if i like it.
I'll pay when I get the other 2 episodes that you are keeping behind a paywall. VNs are the only genre where you have to pay for an update.
It's worse than that, if you check their patreon, they are already in Chapter 11. They haven't updated this place in forever.
Well, that's why this genre will never become mainstream.
I found a 1.11.01 version thinking it was the 11 episodes, and it ended in about 50 mins, so what the heck the numbering system for this game is, it sucks!
That is normal versioning for computer software. It has nothing to do with the amount of content in the game in terms of chapters. 1 = the first release of software. Before a game is released, when it's in an alpha or beta state, you'll normally see this as 0 and when an expansion for the base comes out, it generally becomes 2 and increases as there are new expansions for the base game. The second part is the current version of the base game. When a game first comes up, it'll be something like 1.0 then as versions are updated which tend to be major patches but not expansions, it increases to something like 1.2 and 1.4 etc. Sometimes these are sequential or sometimes not. A game could go from 1.0 to 1.5 then to 1.8 before getting to 2.0. Finally, the last number tends to be the build of that version. This can change when patches such as fixes are added. So you have 1.1.10 meaning you're on the first version of the base game that has had 1 patch and 10 minor patches/fixes. This isn't the hard and fast rule, but the general rules.
No. Any other genre and less than 1.0 is beta, 1.0 is the full release and anything higher than 1.0 is the full game being patched. I have been gaming for 20 years, worked in the business, so know you are incorrect in terms of the general computer game market. Unfortunately, Adult VNs are a different breed, with 95% not being finished or are ever going to be finished, and yet are still on sale on Itch.io and steam. It is a borderline criminal genre.
Is there a gender option? I don't want to have to play as a guy :P
There is not, But it does have one of the best storylines i've played.
Being a DiK is excellent, but another Adult VN where I wonder when/if ever it will be finished.
This is one of the best out of dozens that I have played to the end. I bought it on Steam. I will gift this to a friend level of you should try this.
How have you played it to the end, the full story isn't available yet!
I like it. I'm eager for the next chapters. Love the Doc and eager to reform the naughty bosses daughter.
if you paid for the game here, you got ripped off. future updates are only available on the Leftist Crowdfunding site, Patreon. Financially support leftist totalitarianism, or have an incomplete game, its your choice.
If your IQ is really that low, ask Poe if i am being sarcastic.
Took a look at your comments on other games... It's not even worth arguing with an idiot
Creepy stalker much? no wonder yr playing porn cartoons, real women prolly call the cops on you, creep
Despite the other comments, you are mostly right!

Ok Im really liking the game so far, but Im not getting how to get the clue pop ups
when the clue notification pops up on the left side of the screen, somewhere on that particular render is an object that lights up on mouse over. When yo find it, click, then open the info tab under gallery, and a new render usually featuring the main npc in that particular part of the story is added to your list.
10 out of 10. A full supporter of Philly. Great story and visuals. Well worth the money if you can appreciate the hard work and dedication it takes to produce a real Adult Visual Novel.
An incomplete game should never get 10/10.
Perhaps not. But that's my own opinion. I'm rating it on my level of personal enjoyment and not on it's state of development. No living software or game is ever complete. Once development stops people tend to consider it dead. So how does that relate to me taking off a point?
Because scoring an incomplete game 10/10 promotes non-completion of games. And this just doesn't happen with RPGs, Strategy, FPSs, etc.
Call me old fashion. I like paying for something with a one time payment to get the FULL/COMPLETED game...
this. you have a choice though, you can financially support leftist terrorism and totalitarianism by providing funds through Patreon and get the full game, or you can be a decent fucking human being, though you wont get to have the product you paid for up front in good faith.
I really love that game but it's not trans fuck guy or gay and please can you upload the music of game on YouTube because i love that music from beginning if you upload the music please reply
Don't mind supporting devs where it is due, but as someone on a fixed income due to a chronic disability 5-10 dollars is actually a lot to spend on something that isn't neccesary. Devs that lock their content behind a paywall really irk me. Either make it pay to play, or do a delayed release for non patreon members, but making it impossible to obtain the rest of the story without paying is a low and dirty move. I may be wrong, i may just not see it somewhere, so correct me if I am wrong, but that is exactly what is seems like is going on here. Again, I have NO problem supporting devs, as I have in the past, when the game is good enough, but again.. A paywall to finish the damn story? That'll never get my buck.
I agree, but some can argue against that by posing the argument that the dev's gotta make a living somehow.
Anyways, yes $10's a lot for a VN but there's not much we can do about it, the dev's are gonna loose popularity with this anyways and have to delay release etc to keep their fanbase and cashflow at a steady pace, so in reality its futile for both ends.
It's a poor argument. All you have to do is look around and see how many VN's are abandoned/unfinished. It's a plague. Donations for unfinished works, only incentivates devs to abandon their work and start a new one. The racional is simple: If 90% of the people who are interested and willing to pay for the full game, already did pay for 50% of the work, why should I bother to do the other 50%?
Might as well start a new one from scratch, with just enough to entice people to once again dish out their money, and keep on rince and repeat going forward. No donations for unfinished works. That's my policy.
That rationale is absolutely braindead. There are two problems I see with that.
1) Premise is often extremely important in getting people to take an interest if your work. There's a number of authors who had one great premise and none of the rest of their works really compare - even later ones. J.K. Rowling is a good example of that. If you've got a decent premise, you'd have to be a fool to give up on it. Who knows how good your next one will be? 2) You're going to get a reputation for unfinished works.
Besides, what do you mean "already did pay"? Patreon supporters donate on a monthly basis, or with every release. Sure, there are some people who subscribe, download all the works, and then unsubscribe, but you would still get their money again when you finish the product, if not every few releases. Devs are not incentivised to stop working on the game halfway through.
Besides, PhillyGames already have a finished game under their belt. If that isn't proof of their commitment to their products, I don't know what is.
The main reason there are so many unfinished games is probably the same reason there are so many unfinished fanfics. That shit is hard. It takes commitment. People lose interest in their work. It's not because they're scamming people, they just don't have what it takes to stick with their project and see it through to the end.
Many devs force you to sign up to the $6 level Patreon to download an updated game, not the $1 level!
I don't know what that has to do with anything I said.
If you know you don't have the money to pay, then don't play the game.
I think it's great that they release the first four chapters for free, because it allows people to have a look at the game and see if it's something they like.
That's right, and the way it should be
No.. what is strange is that is all you decided to take from my comment. I have no issue paying to support a dev when the game is A: A well written story. B: Is at least 50 percent finished. (Other's made the same points I was thinking, albeit a lot more eloquently than I could have.) C: Just because I am permanently disabled on a fixed income shouldn't automatically mean I shouldn't have access to the same things others do, yes I am aware the VN's aren't "important" but as someone with a hell of a lot of free time on their hands, I enjoy reading them all the same. My fixed income should not be a barrier to have access to something as simple as an indy VN.  And I wouldn't have even Downloaded the game in the first place if it stated that there was a pay wall to finish the story.. i just dropped it on me. That's where my issue is. Hence why I stated either make it pay to play entirely or not at all. I don't feel "entitled" to play vn's however I think a little transparency before I waste my time and get invested in a story only to be told I have to pay money to finish is a shady move.
Maybe this was a later addition but it is clearly stated now, at least, that chapters 5 and 6 are on Patreon (near the top of the page).
With that said, I'm not entirely sure what you mean by C. Why shouldn't not being able to afford something mean you can't access it? As someone who is also on fixed income due to a chronic disability, I sympathise with your plight, but unfortunately life isn't fair.
