Chris Kluwe's New Campaign

Former NFL punter and activist Chris Kluwe has launched a new, bizarrely specific campaign: to have the designated punter position recognized as a form of performance art. His manifesto, "The Ballad of the Third Leg," argues that punting is the most philosophical play in sports�a voluntary surrender of possession, a moment of pure, soaring hope in a game of brutal acquisition. He's petitioning the Modern Art Museum to acquire a game-used football as a sculpture and wants punters to be paid in grants, not contracts. The NFL is ignoring him. Coaches are confused.
