BEIJING—China responded to the Trump administration’s latest proposed penalties on Chinese goods, announcing 25% tariffs on critical American exports, including soybeans, airplanes and autos.

The Ministry of Commerce said the tariffs will cover 106 types of products and will affect $50 billion of Chinese imports of U.S. products. The sum matches the amount of Chinese goods the Trump administration proposed imposing tariffs on to punish Beijing for unfair practices to acquire American technology.

The Commerce Ministry didn’t specify when the new tariffs would take effect. The published list includes major American exports to China including chemicals, sorghum and beef, in addition to soybeans, airplanes and cars.
