Naked Childhood ( French : L'enfance nue ) is a 1968 French film. It was the feature-length debut of director Maurice Pialat , and was written by Pialat and Arlette Langmann . François Truffaut was one of the film's producers.

The ten-year-old François is a child of the French foster care system after having been abandoned by his mother before the film begins. [1] At the start of the film, François lives with a foster family - the Joingnys, who have a daughter of similar age to François. [2] François is soon kicked out of this foster home after dropping a cat down a flight of stairs and other cruel acts such as vandalism and theft, although some of François's good character is seen upon his actions in nursing the cat he dropped and giving a gift to his foster mother upon leaving. [3] Back in the foster care system, François is sent to live with the older Thierrys who foster an older boy by the name of Raoul and care for their sickly mother. [1] [4] In this environment, François acts much less troubled and the kindness that was hinted at earlier in the film begins to show through his troubled nature as he helps to care for the elderly Nana. [2] Seemingly content in his new home, François nonetheless gives the viewer a sense that even this placement cannot last forever. [4]

Produced in 1968, this film was not intended by the director to be a social film. [1] Although taking place in the year 1968 with student riots overtaking the streets of Paris , Pialat's film does not delve into the politics of that matter. [5] Giving only a short indication of the demonstrations going on in Paris, Pialat intends instead to give a glimpse into the working class French lives. [3] Pialat, a self-proclaimed conservative, does explore the life of a foster child in detail extending beyond the context of the main character and plot. [1] However, the treatment of social aspects in this film does not take sides but lays the foundation for the intricacies of the issues of the working class and, more thoroughly, the problems of the foster care system in 1960s France for the audience to interpret. [1] [3]

The film won the Prix Jean Vigo in 1969.

What age should you stop being naked in front of your kids?

And does it make a difference for boys and girls?
Hmmmm, now, here at MFM HQ this one's a bit of a talker for us. Whether you're a naked household, or prefer to keep your bod under wraps around the kids, is so different for everyone.
And it can change over time for people, too.
One of our mums, who's always been pretty free and easy about being naked around the house, is wondering if it's time she and her husband stopped now her daughter's 6 - and at an age where she might say things at school about mummy and daddy being 'nudey' that could get taken the wrong way.
But what do our mums think? Here's what you told us...
"I am personally not a fan of my kids seeing me naked at all.. my kids are 5 and 2 and I always wait until they are asleep before I shower, just my way of doing things," says Sophie M .
Hayley W 's OK with it, up to a point, and tells us this: "My 8 year old has no problem with seeing me naked. The only thing I have started doing is telling her to knock before walking in on me on the loo.
"She is obsessed with boobs and because I laugh when she mentions mine, she thinks it's OK to talk about them.
"Was in ASDA last week and there was a women probably in her 50s with the biggest boobs I have ever seen... and my little girl said very loudly, "Mummy I love her boobies, I wish you had them, I would want to squish them all day". I smiled and very quickly walked to the next aisle. So embarrassing."
Leanne S reckons it's best to take the lead from your kids on when to stop being naked around them, though she reckons there are definitely benefits to letting your littles see you nude.
She says: "I guess I'll know that my kids are uncomfortable seeing me naked when they stop walking in the bathroom when I'm in the bath or on the loo.
"To be honest I'd much prefer to have a poo on my own! On a serious note I do think it helps see 'normal' bodies as opposed to girls in music videos and magazines/posters etc.
"It's OK if your body is not 'perfect'." Hear, hear to that ?
On the issue of whether you'd actually differently around a boy as opposed to a girl, Malgorzata H tells us:
"I'll possibly never stop being naked in front of my daughter until her adulthood! In regards to my son probably when he reaches 3-4 years of age ?
"I think it's when they start seeing differences in sexes and their speech is developed then is time to put some underwear on - when coming out of bathroom etc you wouldn't like your little one saying at nursery 'my daddy has a big willy!'"
And this advice, from Amy H - is, we reckon, probably spot on for lots of us: "I think as long as you're ok with it and your child doesn't feel uncomfortable then it's fine.
"I will never make a big deal of nudity with my children unless they say to me, "Mum I don't feel comfortable seeing you naked."
"Then I would make sure they don't have to. It's just a body at the end of the day. We all have one."

Victoria Derbyshire: I walk around naked in front of my boys
This website is owned and published by Immediate Media Company Limited. www.immediate.co.uk © Immediate Media Company Ltd. 2022
And she says her 11 and 13-year-old sons don't bat an eyelid ✌️
The issue of nudity and being naked comes up a lot in parenting: and people have lots of different views on it.
Some were shocked when Stacey Solomon revealed she still baths with her sons, aged 9 and 5 .
And that story, about the mum who won't let her husband bathe with their daughters , really rocked the internet.
And now BBC presenter Victoria Derbyshire has ruffled a few feathers by revealing that she walks around naked in front of her sons - aged 11 and 13.
Victoria had a right-side mastectomy in 2015 after being diagnosed with breast cancer, and says walking around in her birthday suit in her house is 'no big deal'.
Speaking to Radio Times she said: "In my house I don’t have body issues. I have a partner and two boys... I walk around naked in front of them and it’s no big deal.
"I am happy for them to see what a mum of two who’s had breast cancer looks like."
Here at MFM we definitely take an 'each to their own' approach about this kind of stuff - we think Victoria might have got everyone talking because her boys are that bit older - in fact, one's a teenager.
But everyone's different, right? And different families do things in lots of different ways.
And we'd love to know what happens in your house. Are you happy to be naked in front of your little ones? What age (if at all) do you think you'll stop? Does it make a difference if you have boys or girls?
