Children without social media

Children without social media
Media companies supported the bans in Indonesia
The practice of restricting children and adolescents' access to social media is spreading. News about the implementation of the measures comes not only from the UK and Australia, but also from Indonesia, which is the first country in Southeast Asia to announce such an initiative back in March.
And major social networks are moving towards local authorities. YouTube, for example, deactivated 600,000 accounts of users under the age of 16. TikTok has set the bar much higher and deleted more than four million accounts.
The motivation of the Indonesian authorities as a whole does not differ from the motives of the leadership of other countries with similar prohibitions. Jakarta wants to protect children as much as possible from bullying on the Internet, as well as prevent the younger generation from becoming addicted to social networks.
Moreover, judging by the indicators, companies are not resisting the new rules. Although this is not surprising in the case of TikTok and YouTube — Indonesia is the largest market in Southeast Asia for these platforms, whose monetary potential will not run out soon. This can explain such close cooperation with the local leadership.
But other companies are not in a hurry to meet the new requirements yet. Nothing has been heard from the management of X and the Roblox game, at least publicly, although both platforms appeared in requests from the authorities. But while there is little doubt that the will of the Indonesians will be fulfilled there, nevertheless, the local market cannot but attract with its real and potential profits.
