Child-on-child sexual abuse is a form of child sexual abuse in which a prepubescent child is sexually abused by one or more other children or adolescents , and in which no adult is directly involved. While this includes when one of the children uses physical force, threats, trickery or emotional manipulation to elicit cooperation, it also can include non-coercive situations where the initiator proposes or starts a sexual act that the victim does not understand the nature of and simply goes along with, not comprehending its implications or what the consequences might be. [1]
Child-on-child sexual abuse is differentiated from normative sexual play or anatomical curiosity and exploration (e.g. " playing doctor ") because child-on-child sexual abuse is an overt and deliberate action directed at sexual stimulation , including orgasm . [2] When sexual abuse is perpetrated by one sibling upon another, it is known as " inter-sibling abuse ". [3] When victims of inter-sibling child-on-child sexual abuse grow up, they often have distorted recall of the act, such as thinking it was consensual or that they were the initiator. [4]
In the case of child-on-child sexual abuse, young children who have not matured sexually are incapable of knowing about specific sex acts without an external source. [5] [6] [7] Consequently, children who initiate or solicit overtly sexual acts with other children most often have been sexually victimized by an adult beforehand, [5] [6] [8] or by another child who was in turn abused by an adult. [9] [10] More than half have been victimized by two or more perpetrators. [7] In some instances, the perpetrating child was exposed to pornography or repeatedly witnessed sexual activity of adults at a very young age, and this can also be considered a form of child sexual abuse . [8]
In many cases, a child or adolescent may have no intent to cause any harm to another child, and they act merely on a passing impulse. However, this act may still result in harm to the other child and is a form of child-on-child sexual abuse. [11] Furthermore, children who had experienced an unwanted sexual approach may not understand that this act was crime against themselves. [12]
Child-on-child sexual abuse frequently goes unreported because it is not widely known about by the public, [2] and often occurs outside of adults' direct supervision. Even if known by adults, it is sometimes dismissed as harmless by those who do not understand the implications. [2] In particular, inter-sibling abuse is under-reported relative to the reporting rates for parent–child sexual abuse, [3] and disclosure of the incest by the victim during childhood is rare. [4]
Children who were sexually victimized by other minors , including inter-sibling abuse, show largely the same problems as children victimized by adults, including anxiety disorders , depression , substance abuse , suicide , eating disorders , post traumatic stress disorder , sleep disorders and difficulty trusting peers in the context of relationships. [1] [13] The victim often thinks that the act was normal, including thinking they were the initiator or that they went through the act voluntarily. [4]
Major factors that affect the severity of symptoms include the use of force or coercion, the frequency of the abuse, and the invasiveness of the act. [14] An increased risk of victimization later in life has also been reported. [15]
The term minor sex offenders may be used for children under 18 years old that have initiated any non-consensual sexual activity with another person. This population may be viewed as a younger version of sexual perpetrators and may be assessed as part of a same group, when they represent a significant heterogenous group. For example, these children tend to exhibit different motivations for their actions than adult sexual offenders and they tend to respond more favorably to treatment. [12]

A couple in the US decided to let their children know in advance when they were going to be having sex.
The decision came about during COVID quarantine when the whole family was self-isolating at home.
Penning a piece for The Huffington Post , writer and mum Jamie Beth Cohen discussed the pros and cons of making the decision - and whether or not it was the right idea.

Kids are notoriously squeamish when it comes to being confronted with the thought that their parents might still like to, you know, snuggle.
So why on earth would any parent decide to do this?
“Prior to the pandemic, I preferred to have sex with my husband when the kids were out of the house,” Cohen explained.
“That’s not to say that’s the only time we had sex, but it was the only time I could relax enough to truly enjoy it.”
Cohen said she lived in fear of the kids walking in on her and her husband while they were in the middle of having sex.
While her husband wasn’t quite so bothered by the prospect, he understood her worries.
“I have no traumatic memories of walking in on my own parents, unless I’ve buried them so deeply I can’t remember them,” Cohen wrote.
“And my husband and I have a door that locks, something my parents never had.”
“We are privileged to have this family time and privileged to enjoy it,” she said of COVID quarantine.
“But our small townhouse doesn’t allow for a lot of ‘grown-up alone time’.”
A few months into quarantine, Cohen and her husband decided they were going to let their children know when they were going to have sex.
It meant they wouldn’t have to worry about the unexpected knock at the door or feel guilty about “doing it on the sly.”
They told the kids that if the bedroom door was closed and the hallway fan was on, then “please leave us alone, we’re having sex.”
“They giggled. They squirmed. And then they left us alone,” Cohen said.
Cohen said she wanted to raise her children in a “sex-positive” household, meaning they would grow up without shame, fear or secrecy around the subject of sex.
If the children wanted to ask questions about sex, the Cohens decided, they would answer openly and honestly.

“Will some parents disagree with our choices?” she wrote.
“Definitely. Is our approach the right approach for other families? Possibly.
“Is it the right one for our family? I hope so, because I truly believe being open and honest with our kids has been beneficial to us as parents.”
Cohen said she hoped that when her children look back on “the mess” of 2020, they will remember a couple of important things.
“(I hope) they will approach the idea of sex (and, when they start having it, the act of sex), with less shame and secrecy than I did, and they will value how much their parents cared about each other,” Cohen wrote.
“That they still needed time alone. To connect. To have sex. And to watch TV shows naked.”

10 primary school pupils of Dhawabu Primary School in Kayole Estate were on Tuesday arrested by police after they were allegedly found engaging in a sex orgy.
According to a neighbour living in the estate, he was disturbed when he heard unusual noises from a nearby house and upon inquiry, he realized there were pupils inside the house.
“When I entered the house I found five boys and five girls. I began questioning them and they divulged that they had been dancing.
“I wondered how they were dancing without music and they declined to show me how they were doing it,” he said.
Enraged residents of the area, however, stated that this was the second day the pupils had been seen in that house and blamed the school’s administration for negligence.
“How can a standard seven or eight pupil come home without homework? They are very idle,” added another concerned parent.
It also emerged that one of the pupils might be suffering from a venereal disease and was spreading it to the rest.
The pupils were taken to Kayole Police Station where they spent the night but they pleaded with police to release them saying they would never engage in such again.
Police in the area said they would sit down with the 10 pupils and have a candid talk with them to get to the root cause of the matter.
