What are people's opinions about naked children playing on a beach? My son (2) hates the feeling of wet shorts and wants to take them off.

On the one hand it's the most natural thing in the world, on the other it can make people uncomfortable.

In many European countries nudity is the complete norm, so why the resistance here?

I wouldnt cos you dont know whos watching. Ive taught mine from the word go private bits are private and only family/the household/ drs see - not strangers. I take spare dry things as both my 6 & 3yo cant bare wet clothes!
I wouldn't let my child go naked anywhere in public. Not because I'm worried about anyone else's opinions but because you never know who may be watching or taking pictures. At 2 you can make it clear he either keeps the shorts on or doesn't get wet. 🖒

From a nudity perspective there is nothing wrong with a 2 year old being naked on the beach.
I would however be worried about the sun on their sensitive skin, particularly intimate areas.
Maybe a sun/swim suit that protects them from uv rays but is also fast drying might help?

Lots of kiddies run around naked on the beaches near me and in local parks. I don’t see anything wrong with it.
It was pretty normal when I was growing up but it’s not something I have done with my little boy, if we have windshields up ect then he would sit on a towel nudey but not running around! Xx
My 2 year olds love being naked at home and will strip off at any given chance, although I don’t see anything wrong with a naked lil one running around I won’t let them go outside in the garden naked due to making other people uncomfortable, us mums/dads wouldn’t feel uncomfortable see another baby naked, but people without kids tend to feel bit uncomfortable lol x

I don't personally have a problem with young children being naked on the beach, but there's some weird folk out there and I therefore wouldn't allow my children to be naked for more than a quick strip off and change under a towel if possible. Aside from that, I'd be worried about sun exposure or sand getting into places it shouldn't, so I'd dress them to avoid that!

It's so sad that we even have to give it a thought. Most young kids are so happy when they are naked, it's ashame we can't just allow it and relax.

I personally don't have an issue with it but would probably weigh up my surroundings before stripping LO down as you just never know. Even then it's hard to tell who's who as paedophiles etc often look just the same as the next person.

I think the idea of one of those wetsuits is a good one as they feel different to normal wet clothes and offer all round protection if you are not 100% comfortable with your child being naked.
Wow, what a sad world we live in. Let your toddler run around naked on the beach if they want to! We all did it. Mine was doing it just a couple of days ago and I didn't think twice. Just creamed him up [emoji16] I can't believe anyone would be offended.

Totally agree with this! Once dry you are then going to have to cover him entirely in sun cream and sand sticks to it, which is fine on legs, arms, chest etc, as it is easy to clean off, but if it gets trapped under his foreskin that's going to be extremely sore.
Toddlers should absolutely be able run around naked, it's so sad that we have to question this.

However I personally wouldn't on a beach, purely because I would be worried about strangers videoing/ taking photos. It's awful that we even have to consider this, but it is something that should be considered.

We often go to the beach near my aunties house, there's very, very rarely anyone else on it and I let the kids run around naked there. They're often naked in the garden, especially if we've had the pool out. More often than not at the minute they're at least half naked because we're potty training. X

I wouldn’t let my two year old daughter run naked on the beach, technology has moved on so much since we were younger there’s no way of telling who’s recording or taking pictures these days

I dislike seeing children naked on the beach or anywhere public; I just don’t think it’s necessary and makes them an easy target for pedophiles that are probably already lurking in such places.
I would also be concerned at their intimate areas becoming burnt.

If I was in your position I would buy a windbreak and do a quick change into a pair of dry shorts behind it.

I appreciate everyone has different views on the subject and my best friend let’s her children get naked at the beach; she even posted photographs on Facebook...each to their own.

KIDS TV show Simply Naked has sparked outrage after adults stripped naked for a panel of children 'to promote body positivity'.
The Dutch TV show sees five free-spirited adults strip naked disrobe in front of the youngsters to answer any questions they have about the human body.
Dutch broadcaster NTR released a trailer for the show, which saw some of the children giggling as the adults came into the room.
TV presenter Edson da Graça told NOS: "The aim is to teach children that each and every body is different and that not all bodies are perfect."
While Simply Naked doesn't deal with sex, critics have still slammed the show as "disgusting".
Thierry Baudet - leader of right-wing FvD party - even went as far as to say the show "comes close to promoting paedophilia".
The broadcaster issued a statement following the backlash, saying: "The children knew exactly what was going to happen and they could say how they felt during the programme at any time.
"We had expected a bit of a ruckus. Not everyone will think this is for children and that’s OK.
"It’s up to the parents to decide if their children can watch."
Simply Naked is based on a Danish TV show which also faced backlash.
Sofie Münster, a parenting expert told the New York Times in October about the show: "We recognise the significance of a bruise. Danish parenting generally favours exposing children rather than shielding them.
"This is how we educate our children, we show them reality as it is."
