Album: Single release only ( 2016 )
Cheat Codes and Kris Kross Amsterdam joined together for this sultry deep house tune, which was first released by Spinnin' Records on February 19, 2016. It was the international breakthrough for both acts, reaching the Top 10 in many countries charts worldwide. So who are the two groups? Cheat Codes is an American vocal electronic music trio based in Los Angeles, consisting of singers and producers Trevor Dahl, Kevin Ford, and Matthew Russell. Kriss Kross Amsterdam is a Dutch DJ trio comprising brothers Jordy and Sander Huisman and MC Yuki Kempees. The group was founded in 2011 by the Huisman brothers who missed the old skool RnB sound and organized a party called Kris Kross Amsterdam named in tribute to the famous rap duo.
Kriss Kross Amsterdam saw the song's hit potential straight away. They told DMC World : "When our record label Spinnin' Records sent us the acapella version of 'Sex' we really liked it. So in the studio we composed the music for it and within two ours the first demo was ready. When we listened to it we immediately had the feeling this could be big."
The song borrows the sentiment and chorus from Salt-n-Pepa's 1991 hit " Let's Talk About Sex ." However it takes a more pro-sex approach, as opposed to the original's lyrics about the dangers of unprotected intercourse.
The song's music video was directed by Chris Campbell. The clip features Cheat Codes and Kris Kross Amsterdam in a sex education class, with the teacher being played by model and actress Hayley Ambriz ( Taller Than Me , Harder ).
