ChatGPT has passed a medical exam. What's next?

ChatGPT one of the most popular text based AI's, has passed the United States Medical Exam. But not just that, it passed 5 more law and business-related exams - and likely more. With that, whats next, and can institutions combat these AI's?

Schools are changing the way they do things

Schools in New York have banned ChatGPT the same way they do to YouTube and other social media sites like Facebook and Instagram. They cited “concerns about negative impacts on student learning, and concerns regarding the safety and accuracy of content.” But this wont work.

Its easy to work around such bans - since students have other devices like personal phones. Even at school, they can use VPN's and Proxies. If all else fails, its on Roblox too. Even GPTZero - a website that can detect AI writing, can likely be fooled by modifying and paraphrasing the text a little.

Some schools have changed the way they are doing exams by changing formats of their papers. But the AI can probably circumvent these too.

ChatGPT in Schools

As time goes by, its likely best to explore integration of ChatGPT into the classroom - while ChatGPT did pass the 5 exams stated, it did so just scraping by. In a New York Times article by Kevin Roose, it gives a good analogy - using ChatGPT as how students now use calculators.

It might not be all bad too - ChatGPT can also push teachers to changing teaching methods, requiring students to learn in different ways - and this might even be beneficial to the students. In Singapore especially, teachers are being asked to put more emphasis on "critical thinking and less on rote learning."

Tools like ChatGPT are only going to improve. Its rumored that the next few versions of OpenAI's ChatGPT might have something similar to a conscience. While its definitely a rumor, it won't be surprising if this comes out in the near future. The best solution is to then find out how to use these tools for our benefit, and not just try to stop them.

Maybe - ChatGPT can be beneficial tool for education. If we use it that way.

How about in work?

Its quite likely that these AI's will become another tool to help you, and not replace you. Because while ChatGPT can keep on evolving and getting better, humans still have an important role to play. Its likely going to help automate certain tasks, not take over entire jobs. Customer service can be made easier by filtering out easy to answer questions with AI - or automated email writing.

Even still, a human touch will still be very much needed, at least for the foreseeable future.

AI can be a really helpful tool - if used right. Hopefully the world uses it that way.
