Historical Archives - Nude Male Swimming - This site focuses upon the traditional differences between the genders as it pertained to nudity when swimming, and covers the two centuries preceding the mid 20th century. It is the most comprehensive archive on this subject and features historic documents, books, journals, photographs, rare vintage film, paintings and news articles. It also provides historical documentation pertaining to the period when recreation centers, the YMCA and public schools mandated that all boys take swim classes completely naked whereas girls were provided swimsuits - a common regulation up until the mid 1960s.

What is CFNM? What is its origins?
Hi!. My name is Brad Thompson (well, not actually, that's just my nom de plume) and in 1995 I created the acronym CFNM. It was done simply as a convenience to name a curious and interesting pastime I and a number of others were exploring using the wondrous new world we called the Internet to chat about it. CFNM stands for "clothed-female/naked-male" and describes any situation wherein a clothed female enjoys being in the presence of completely naked men. So what's the big deal about that acronym? Well, you got me. But evidently the rest of the world thought it was something neat because as I write this, a Google search shows there are about eighty twelve bazillion hits on it. This means you now have to go to the twentieth Google page of links to finally find the Community Foundation of Northwest Mississippi. But the twenty pages of links before you get to their link are all about the same thing - "clothed-females with naked-males". That foundation must really hate me.
CFNM has taken some interesting turns over the years since and now means different things to different people. Many of these people will boldly assert to anyone listening that they hold the divine, all-knowing answer as to what constitutes CFNM then spout it out daring anyone to challenge them. But I don't remember any of those people in the early days when I and a group of deliciously mischievous girls hosted our first *official* CFNM parties in California.
The one common theme of CFNM is that the females are in an empowered situation because they are afforded the protection and concealment of clothing whereas the males are fully exposed and helplessly vulnerable to the observing eyes of the females. The females can see every square inch of the males' naked bodies, yet the males are denied seeing any of the uncovered delights of the females. CFNM is thus an inequitable, unfair situation, and that aspect is not only fully admitted, but is enjoyed and celebrated, particularly by the females that appreciate CFNM.
But there are some misconceptions about CFNM. First, men that seek control of their sexual encounters and want to be dominant are often threatened by the concept of CFNM. Insecure in their own sexual orientation, they call CFNM "gay". This is completely untrue as CFNM always involves a heterosexual encounter between the female and male genders. Further, a poll I took of 2,000 men interested in CFNM in social medias and bulletin boards like Craigslist demonstrated that the percentage of men interested in CFNM that were gay was less than the percentage of gay men in the general population. Regardless, calling CFNM gay does not have the stinging caustic bite it once did among heterosexual men. Men secure in their own sexuality, such as I am, take no offense in being called gay, even though I am neither gay nor bi. In fact, chat forum at cfnmvillage.com, we have gay men that enjoy CFNM as well, and they are welcomed.
The second misconception about CFNM is that it is for men that enjoy flashing women. By definition, CFNM involves females that have intentionally put themselves in an environment where they know they will see male nudity, and have accepted that. The traditional park bench flasher or guy that wanks in his car in a mall parking lot are simply imposing themselves on unsuspecting females. This is a selfish form of unwanted exhibitionism that not only instills grief and fear in unsuspecting women, but is also highly illegal. Those into CFNM shun and condemn such flashing.
CFNM is found in many places including such vocations as female sports reporters in male locker rooms, nursing attendants, female guards in male correctional institutions and female lifeguards and park wardens at clothing optional beaches. Although these female professionals may or may not find anything erotic about their work, the CFNM dynamic is still there, particularly when clothed females have routine daily conversations with a completely naked men as part of their daily job work.
